Today I mourn the loss of a friend: Gifted writer, music critic and man of solid character, Rickey Wright. He died of a massive stroke yesterday in Seattle at 4:31pm PST. He was 45.
When I was growing up in Norfolk, VA and active in the music scene, Rickey was always there. He had more knowledge and passion about bands, both indie and mainstream than anyone I have met since. He had an unmistakable voice and his tone was often arrogant when expressing an opinion about a band. When he was right, he knew it and could not be convinced otherwise. It was part of his charm and led to many arguments with his sometimes girlfriend but always friend Jill. These arguments most often ended with laughter.
There are lots of articles, obits and tributes of and to him online today. Go read them. He deserves that you know who he was.
