Gmail and Outlook used to play together very nicely. Before the last time I formatted this computer, I had configured several Gmail accounts in Outlook (and on other computers, too). It took some tweaking but it worked eventually. This time I simply could not get POP3 for Gmail and Outlook to work. Lesson learnt: POP3 is a waste of time, but IMAP ( Read more... )

Photoshop is a big fucking bastard of a piece of software - I think the key is what you want to use it for. Doing graphic design in it involves a very different toolset to, say, cleaning up your photos.

I've found the easiest way is to follow online tutorials along the sorts of things you want to do. That gets you comfortable with the various menus and options and you learn what effect certain approaches have so you can apply them to your own situations when they come up.

Urgh, yes, finding one's way around it is hard. That's why I didn't even know where to start! I wanted to learn lots of things: adjusting photos, basic graphics (for the web), being able to "mock up" website designs like I hear people do instead of resorting to pen and paper. So I took your advice and worked through some tutorials, building my confidence a bit at a time. :p
