Short, busy month = shorter monthly round-up.

Fic I wrote

It's not precisely fic, but I played in the fandom secrets meme.

Now the Sun has Come to Earth - Sam and Teal'c at the ending of the world.

Sins Which Aren't Ours - Jolinar and Qetesh backstory. Written for LeapGate (you still have two days!)

Tumbling Down - Trio ep tag. Sam, Jack ( Read more... )

Oh, what a great list of stories. I'm especially glad to see The Weight of non-Existent Years, I have that on my list to rec soon too.

First time reading through This is Not Wartime? It's amazing. Jenn's Ghost in the Machine is probably the other novel (until RW posts hers) that I would say should not be missed in this fandom.

These posts help me keep track of stories I loved - but I'm so glad they help others too.

Yeah. I started Wartime months ago...late summer I think and then paused at "A Dirty Wind" because it was so long but used my cross-country plane flight to finally finish it and OMG SO GOOD!

I still have to read Ghost in the Machine and I am eagerly (and very antsy-ily) awaiting RW's novel (though I have to say, having gotten a sneak peek at Syne's "Cairo is Burning" - that's going on the "novels not to be missed" list also)

OMG SO GOOD!

*nodnodnod* SO AWESOME! And "Cairo" is extraordinary, and "Have Snake, Will Travel" has been a touchstone for me in certain ways ...

I am eagerly (and very antsy-ily) awaiting RW's novel

*meeps* I only hope it lives up to the advance billing.

Yes, yes, and yes. I loved "Have Snake" for a lot of reasons, but I really thought the host-symbiote interactions were so cool and I loved seeing Sarah's snark, particularly at Daniel. So good.

And I have full faith in the advance billing!

this is one of those stories I would still highly recommend to gen-only people and tell them to just skim through those few scenes (or read them also because they're wonderfully in character and packed with emotion). Otherwise you're going to really miss out.

You know, it might be interesting to put together a list of "non-gen fics that gen-oriented people might enjoy". There are a bunch of great fics like that which aren't technically gen, but where the focus is very much on the plotty gen aspects, and the sex/romance is a minor aspect at most (a.k.a. "Bob" fic).

And I get that some people don't want any amount of ship/slash in their gen, but there are also people for whom it's more about wanting the focus to be on other stuff.

Oh, man, I could do that :)

I mean, I think it would be tricky because even when I was a gen-only person (instead of the mostly-gen person I am now) my tolerance for ship was way higher than a lot of gen-only people and even thinking about the gen only people I know, there are such different tolerances to how much not-gen elements they can stomach (or things like it's okay if it's Daniel/Sha're or Jack/Sara))

would be an interesting list. For me it's the difference between "the romance is most of the plot" and "the romance is a tiny part of the plot"

Maybe a set of sub-categories? *g*

Or you could just give a bit of info about the non-gen elements so that people can pick according to their own tolerance levels. I mean, there are stories where the non-gen element is entirely implied/offscreen (like "Freedom's Just Another Word"), and ones where there's explicit sex (as with "A Dirty Wind"). And there are stories where a developing relationship is one significant emotional component, even if the primary focus is plotty gen-ness, versus the stories where it's just a background reference.

Very true - it would actually make sense to specifically explain the non-gen element (what is involved and how much) so people can self-censor.

Hmmmm....could be an interesting list.
