February Round-Up

Mar 01, 2008 08:22

Short, busy month = shorter monthly round-up.

Fic I wrote

It's not precisely fic, but I played in the fandom secrets meme.

Now the Sun has Come to Earth - Sam and Teal'c at the ending of the world.

Sins Which Aren't Ours - Jolinar and Qetesh backstory. Written for LeapGate (you still have two days!)

Tumbling Down - Trio ep tag. Sam, Jack friendship with side scoop of UST written for the Day of Indulgence for surreallis

Fic I Loved This Month (not a comprehensive list)

Under Your Fate by surreallis - Sam/Jack (barely) - Sam is in prison and Jack does all he can to keep her going. The writing gives the piece a wonderfully brittle feel.

Pepper_Field wrote another British Museum ficlet where poor Daniel learns that showing his team around a museum is worse than herding cats.

Under a Broken Moon by raqs is the sequel to the PegBa'al fic I recced last month. It's fantastic and actually manages believable Jack/Rodney. However, pay attention to the warnings in rydra_wong's rec here because it isn't easy.

There are no dragons here by beanpot is a fantastic Teal'c character study and great Teal'c and Jack friendship.

raisintorte gave us Let's Get Down to It for choc_fic - Sam and Ronon in early season 4 feeling each other out and surprising each other. I love Sam's strength and Ronon's reactions.

This is Not Wartime is an apocafic series by cofax7 and I recced it months ago, but I'm finally finished reading the whole thing and it just blew me away. A group of minor Goa'uld take Earth and enslave/terrorize the population. SG-1 very slowly leads the resistance to win the planet back. It's so incredibly well-plotted and well-developed and complex with fantastic characterization of both the characters we love and a host of original characters. All of it is dirty and gritty and real and sometimes brutal and hard and, well, it's an apocalypse. Throughout the series there are moments of Janet/Daniel, Sam/Daniel, Jack/Daniel and Jack/Sam/Daniel, however, this is one of those stories I would still highly recommend to gen-only people and tell them to just skim through those few scenes (or read them also because they're wonderfully in character and packed with emotion). Otherwise you're going to really miss out.

These Days of Sahara (gen) by synecdochic gives us Sam and Cam in an Ori-controlled Earth and marvelous, lyrical storytelling.

So months ago there was a sg1teamficathon and stories were posted and I was swamped and didn't read them, including the one written for me, which made me a horrible person. But I finally made it over to the one written for me - Genie of the MALP by moonshayde and I'm so sad I waited so long because it's wonderful teaminess and wonderful Sam and Daniel and funny(!) Teal'c and cranky!Jack in the good way and a fresh, great story concept with fun technology and I enjoyed all of it so very much.

Have Sanke, Will Travel (Director's Cut) by Samdonne is a "what if" based off "Chimera" (one of my favorite episodes) and has Osiris kidnap Daniel and drag him across the country. We get Osiris with Sarah nagging him and Daniel being so incredibly Daniel with his stubborn determination and snark and it's not pleasant (because the snake hates Daniel and snakes are vicious) but it's still so very good.

pepper_field added to our Sam/Daniel kid!fic universe of shmoop with Surrender (a family battle in the woods) and it still makes me so happy in such a strange, inexplainable place. *loves*

Finally, one of my prompts for choc_fic was chosen and The Weight of Non-Existent Years by beatrice_otter was exactly what I was hoping for, only more. Sam and Teal'c after "Unending" and before "Atlantis" and everything Teal'c has and everything he had and everything he lost and all of it all tangled up with Sam and a careful sparring match and the bond that formed and I love it so.
