Not even a week in Nuadoria, and Rikku was already sliding back into the city's society like a cold hand just waiting for a fitted glove.

So maybe she didn't know this Kadaj person. And maybe Reno did and said he was a crazy bad apple. But what kind of person would she be if she listened only to what other people said and didn't form her own opinion? Definitely no child of her father. If Cid saw her shrinking away from something she'd already committed to, he'd tan her hide faster than she could say machina. Besides, it wasn't as if she was dreading this or anything. Quite the opposite, actually. The blonde girl was anxious to get back into the swing of things in Nuadoria. Al Bhed were good at adapting; that was how they survived. Not that she really needed to try to fit in here. Everybody was some kind of outcast, and, even though it might have been a little mean, she was sure Kadaj was the same. They were all the same, really--taken from their homes and thrown into this place, given no rhyme or reason for the change. The natives ( ... )

Kadaj wasn’t sure what he had been expecting. It was true, he could count the girls he had known on his hand, and back in Edge he hadn’t even bothered to pay attention to them. They were all boring, in the past. They may as well have been faceless ( ... )

Like any girl who knew she wore what best fit her body, the blonde had anticipated the once-over, and the corner of her lips twitched upwards a little more once he gave in to it. The entire process only lasted hardly a moment for him, and she had to give him credit for not staring at her chest or anything. So he said he'd never understood women, or something like that, but she had just proved that it didn't mean he didn't like them, even subconsciously. Score one for Rikku, chalk it up to common sense. When his eyes rose back to her face after just a split second, she looked back at him without flinching, making sure her gaze was level with his before he got there ( ... )
