He'd said after Rinoa he shouldn't do this anymore. He'd been glad she'd gone back home, but there had been something about meeting her that left a hollow place in him when she had finally disappeared. Maybe he'd been compensating-or at least trying to; hoping to fill an unfillable void with her, but in the end he'd only made it larger by letting her into his life with her now gone. And it was stupid how when you said you weren't lonely and you didn't need anyone because you didn't care how attached you became to people even on the most superficial of relationships that you probably ended up being the lonliest and caring the most of all ( ... )

"It's fine." He'd been waiting, but the time was spent running though, yet again, what he wanted and, very likely, needed to talk about ( ... )

He only briefly watched the two cats mingle before nodding at Zero's request. Somewhere more private... well, it wasn't as if he knew of very many places, anymore. In the state the city was in with its amount of people, sitting in any one place for an extended amount of time wasn't normal, but he admitted that worrying people would overhear wasn't a concern that often crossed his mind. Still, Caim had never been one to tell people what to worry about and what not to worry about, so he only gave the smallest nod in acknowledgement before turning to give the area a brief scan ( ... )

Despite the time he had already spent within the city, Zero only vaguely recalled the archives. He'd looked into it maybe once or twice for information, but the search proved useless, not to mention the atmosphere at the time had been too much for Zero to put up with for too long. While he probably could have led the way back to his apartment, the conversation Zero had in mind wasn't going to be long. Well, at least he hoped it wouldn't. He should be fine with the archives.

A good duration of the walk there was done so in silence, Zero's thoughts too preoccupied with what he wanted to say and how he should say them. There had never been a real need for Zero to explain anything before; Chairman Cross already knew, as did Yagari, and Yuuki was aware of enough that even if she did want to question him, Zero would have likely told her that it wasn't something that he wanted to share ( ... )
