There was a healthy probability that it was an Atma taking over. The crackling, pained voice on the console, the degeneration of the transmission to a snowy static, it all sounded distinctly familiar, and Gale wasn't sure what he thought about that. And perhaps that was why his Atma throbbed so hungrily at the sound, and perhaps that was why he slid his fingers up, up across the bridge of his nose like David used to, touching glasses he wasn't wearing, adjusting something that wasn't there. And perhaps that was all the reason Gale had needed to promptly turn off the communicator, stand and seize the large gun from where it rested against the wall, gripping it in both hands. No period for adjustment. It never really mattered how much time went by; the gun was more familiar, even, than anything that had come after.

Just like old times. The thought slipped to the fore, and as with so many things, so many strange memories, he was unable to stop it. And yes, he supposed, he supposed it was familiar to be grasping his gun in hand and ( ... )

Human. The only time he had ever encountered that sort of power was with monsters. He wasn't tuning. He wasn't supposed to be able to use mantras if he wasn't tuning. Gale couldn't see if he had an Atma mark, clad head to toe as he was, but it didn't matter; he wasn't berserk, he wasn't a demon.

That was simply - it should have been - impossible.

There was a movement in the corner of his eye. His body remained unmoving, gun trained at a distance, but his bright green eyes dragged across, dragged slowly over to where another stood. He looked as though he'd just arrived himself, no doubt drawn to the source of the commotion. A potential threat? He could have been, anyone else in that area could have been drawn for any number of reasons; combat, concern, mere human curiosity. A desire to detain him. Gale himself wasn't certain of why he was there, after all; it had just felt... appropriate.

He raised his hand, gestured to get the other man's attention. A direct invitation over.

Whatever his reasons, they should discuss.

The wind was rising now, echoing the turmoil in his very soul. The very edges of the gusts were getting sharper, the vortices spinning faster and out of control. Leaves snapped, caught in the crosswinds and ripped apart. Lacerations were starting to appear in the stones around him, scoured like so many claw marks.

Luc slammed a hand down on those marks, seeing the way the gusts, invisible to others, flowed away. Control. He still had control, although it was rather like hanging onto the edge of a precipice in the middle of a howling hurricane.

Damn Rune. Damn Rune. He’d been so close to destroying it. So very close. And all of those had slipped through his fingers, torn from his grasp by ignorant fools who did not understand…

And now it raged within him again, but something was holding it back. He closed his eyes, fighting to think above what sounded like continuous screaming in his mind. Balance, ground, center; the basics… Mistress Leknaat’s words rang in his ears again, reminding him that even those with a natural aptitude for ( ... )

lmao way to be useful, shuuhei. shoohay August 4 2008, 10:00:54 UTC
Here, Shuuhei couldn't count for the ordinary. He found that nowadays, he wasn't as surprised by some of the things that went on around him. This was no exception to the clause, and he wasn't going to phased by it. Not now. It might have been him taking the situation all too lightly despite his condition, but he had gotten through worse situations than this. The scars on his face was proof of that ( ... )

It's okay, Gale's being a sack of tits and I can't write worth a damn today so shorttag is short. D8 comprehends August 5 2008, 14:48:53 UTC
As the wind slowly degenerated, finally disappeared in a quiet, soft wave of dust that swept and settled across the square, Gale slowly got to his feet, the nozzle of his gun dropping to point at the ground with a steady click, grey gloves sliding as his fingers found a more comfortable place to sit on the metal. No; it would seem that Shuuhei wasn't wholly incorrect. There was something out of sorts about the situation, though he couldn't place his finger on it, and it wasn't some matter of instinct. Logically, it didn't make sense, not with the way Luc had spoken ( ... )
