This is one of those lovely evenings where it's just begging to be disrupted. Although things have been peaceful so far and are slowly going to be drawing to a close soon, it's not meant to end this way.
At about 10:30 PM the lights flicker, but other than that there is no suggestion as to what's just around the corner.
10:40 PM: it's peaceful, there's still music and food and an overall (almost eerie) peace to the party.
10:45 PM: It's not that surprising, is it, when the lights go out and everything goes black?
It's the sound of something cracking, like the very air itself being ripped apart that breaks the silence. The lights flicker back on barely in time for the show to be witnessed.
There is indeed a giant tear in the middle of the festivities, a large portal that shows only blackness, the lights within the area occasionally flickering and causing what seems to be mist slowly flowing out of the darkness to be seen.
FIGHT THE DRAGONtellmeiamrealNovember 6 2011, 11:40:57 UTC
[It wasn't really correct to say that Luke had been expecting this. In fact, he'd nearly inhaled his hors d'oeuvres in shock. But he'd been on edge all night, just waiting for the moment where he would have to rip out his sword and throw himself into a battle.]
[And now -- yeah, a big ugly dragon out of nowhere was definitely a good reason to start fighting. So what if it was a little big and -- uh, fearsome looking? He fought worse than this, surely? Although not alone.]
[Drawing his sword, Luke leapt onto a nearby table and launched himself at the creature.]
[Don't worry, Luke, surely you won't be alone for this!
The dragon isn't exactly paying attention to anyone in particular, but is quick to turn its attention to Luke when the attack connects over its back. The attack scrapes along, although its scales seem harder than bone and that sensation will vibrate through Luke's weapon back at him.
Nevertheless, it's a scratch and the dragon doesn't like it so it goes to snap its jaws in the direction of Luke, fully satisfied with the concept of chomping on him.]
[She'd seen and been pretty much horrified at the sight of some whackjob redhead rushing the creature with what she thought was simply a sword. While Max didn't possess any real weapons, she did have unusually dense muscles, as well as a thick skull.
So she'd opted to take to the air with a quick snap of her wings and slammed herself into the dragon's outstretched neck with as much good sense as a newborn kitten with a brain malfunction. Seeing a valiant young man chomped on for his efforts wasn't exactly her idea of fun.]
[OH OW. DAMN IT. The Dragon almost squeaks at the feeling of getting it in the neck, totally missing its potential lunch on top of it!
It swings its head around to face away from the two now, clamping and unclamping its jaw a few times and then shaking its head by waving its neck a little as if trying to regains its composure. That is embarrassing for a dragon.

[Luke falls back and rolls, his sword arm aching. Swinging down on that thing had been like trying to chop stone. He almost could have sworn he'd seen sparks come off his blade.]
[Flicking the hair out of his eyes, he almost misses the sight of his new comrade-in-arms. Stumbling to his feet, Luke shouts.]
HEY! Be careful!
[He sidesteps, trying to dodge the dragon's jaws, yet looking for an opening to attack.]
SO SORRY FOR THE LATE GUYS ;O;absolute_npcNovember 29 2011, 18:05:59 UTC
[No. NO. There will be not party gatherings and ganging up on him, you two stay apart! It roars threateningly at Luke, snapping its jaws to boot, but doesn't make a lunge for him or anything just yet. It's clearly an intimidation attempt at least until it fully recovers and is more than ready to attack again.]
[Rather than continue to beat herself against a full-sized dragon, at least for the moment, Max instead executed a tight turn and circled back towards Luke while giving the beast a wide berth. She landed beside him and stood defensively, unsure of Luke, but sure of their and everyone else's situation and its undesirability.]
So [and she's hopeful, but not by much] are you, like, some professional dragon killer from medieval times? [He did have a sword.]
[Her evasion went a little more smoothly, with a swift and high leap as the tail came slashing between them, and she landed at a crouch beside Luke with a very doubtful look given to the poor redhead.]
I can totally tell, with the fancy footwork and all.
[It's okay Luke, she'll likely fall on her face at some point today.]
oh god guys feel free to punch me to go faster with this i don't get npc notifs T_T!!absolute_npcDecember 10 2011, 17:12:33 UTC
[Unfortunately, the dragon isn't really ready to give them time to chat (they had time for that all evening) and although they manage to miss its swing it'll crane its neck back before shoving it forward at them in a roar. And roar it does, with the added affect of a wind attack blasting from its mouth. Should they get hit, the wind is like spinning blades and more than enough to slice skin and clothing.]
[She tried to smile encouragingly, although in the heat of the moment it looked more pained than anything, and being a skinny thing not even worth a hundred pounds the dragon's attack succeeded in knocking her away from Luke's side and onto her back some yards behind. Her arms and legs served defensively to block her vitals from the dragon's roar, and in turn received the brunt of the cutting force.
Holy mother of fuck that was not the best feeling. Max coughed from the unpleasant impact between herself and the floor, bloodied from the slicing winds and tipped harshly off her high horse. But her eyes quickly snapped open in search of the redhead once more, hoping to see him still in one piece.]
[Luke groans in pain, his ears ringing. He'd hadn't gotten the full force of the roar, but his noble haute couture clothing didn't offer much protection against the blast. He'd ended up flat on his back, his arms and bare stomach bleeding from a myriad of shallow cuts.]
[He staggers to his feet, huffing, only to notice that both his hands are now empty.]

That's not the problem, however.
The problem is what's come out of that hole.

Watch out, here comes the dragon's tail, aimed to smash right into the both of you like a mouse getting swatted with a broom.]

My friends and I fight monsters a lot. Although usually not this big--gah!

Sorry. I guess I'm not used to fighting something like this. Maybe I need to practice more...
[He rubs his neck, but it's his pride that's wounded, not anywhere on his body.]
