[Elena slips in quietly, trying to be subtle. She's still in her suit, and armed to boot, not wanting to commit to being an official guest in case of a trap.]

She pokes at the food and examines the statues, curious in spite of herself. She even stares at the servants suspiciously, wanting to question them, but remembering what she saw recently of Dai's "servants", she does not quite having the nerve.]

[ elena makes for an unsubtle and easily recognised figure in her dressed-down uniform, and dai is soon gravitating towards her as she ambles around the near-finished preparations, looking wary and ill at ease. ah, really, was all the food so unappetising? or was she just feeling a little concerned about the circumstances surrounding this whole occasion...? admittedly, he isn't precisely the most trustworthy face, having surreptitiously taken over a good spot of the land; it seemed to be an automatic assumption that to oppose dai was to be on the side of the guests, and not that of the other magisters. upsetting, that, when being their friend is much more favourable.

but, well. he's sure he can do something about any ill that's come to his image, in that respect. it's all a misunderstanding, really. ]

Elena. [ he all but materialises behind her, bending at the waist in an ever-so-courteous bow. ] How lovely to have you here, and looking as charming as ever.

[ really, but it would've been nice to get her in a flashy red number, ( ... )

Gahhhhh!

[Dear sweet Shiva he was good at sneaking up on people. It was like a damn superpower.]

[She smoothed her suit, trying to act casual. No point letting him know he'd gotten such a reaction out of her.]

[Elena snarls at him.] Don't flatter me. I'm on the job.

And I do think too ill of you to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Nothing comes for free. Just what are you getting out of this? It seems safe to say you don't want us all dead, but...

[ smoooth, elena. dai smiles in spite of the accusations - only the slightest narrowing of his gaze to give away any particular feelings on the matter. aaah, really, she's still going to do this here, too? and when they're supposed to be celebrating his advance...

but she isn't going to give up, is she. she'll probably stand in his way right until the end.

all right. when she's being this determined, could it hurt that much to indulge her, a little bit? he can bite. and he does, leaning forward, using his height advantage to loom over her. ]

... You do have this penchant of seeing right through me, if I'm honest. And it may well be true that I had something to gain from getting you here. But really, being called out all the time... wouldn't anyone start to lose their patience with someone who can't leave matters alone?

[ he sighs, rubbing his temple slowly. ]

If you must know, I had plans to dance with you. But really, if you push me into saying so, it saps the romance out of everything.

[Dave had taken his time on the walk to the Cathedral. He's watched the rift from behind his shades with the look of someone who knew exactly what it was.

It wasn't like that wasn't ahead of him at home. The trolls had talked about it endlessly and everything had been leading up to it like a runaway train. Who knew what came after that.

His attention shifted, as it always did, focusing on the servants. He didn't like how they were treated or even the battered things that wouldn't hold against an unbroken weapon. Or a broken one if you looked at the legendary sword tucked into his Sylladex.

It was difficult to act like he didn't give a damn when he wanted to rip the armor off of them and tell them to go and be free. Like that kid telling Willy to jump to freedom. He chose to ball his hands into fists as he strode between them ( ... )

[She'd come by herself, truthfully unaware of where Kaito and Zero might have been to drag them along (in fact, she was beginning to suspect-beginning to worry-that they'd gone home without her.

But, she promised herself that she wouldn't dwell, would play her part as any Kuran would at a setting like this: noble, polite, and by the books. An affair like this was one to be taken seriously which was probably why she was dressed formally as well, in an off-white dress as she cautiously approached Dave. She'd never seen him before, but she was pretty sure they must have spoken on the network at least once.

The girl gaves a small smile, hands settled behind her back. He looked really serious, more like someone on guard waiting for trouble than one here to enjoy a party (perhaps, she was the only one who really took it for what it was, here. But, she trusted Dai enough even if those servants of his caused more than enough suspicion and speculation to possible truer motives.]

Are you planning to stand there all night...?

[Dave has noted people as they entered the room. One of the perks of shades was no one knew where you were looking. His eyes were on the girl when she approached him but his hand never strayed to the sylladex in his coat pocket. He didn’t think she was trouble.

The person he didn’t trust was Dai. No one good treated people like they were things like that. To be fair, he’d robbed the people of his land of their life savings. Dave would argue his cause for that was just and it wasn’t like he was using them as cannon fodder.

He shrugged at the girl’s question.] Depends on who shows up or what goes down tonight. You never know what’s ahead.

[The response is a familiar one to her. She nods before turning to look over the area herself, a bit suspicious but mostly trying to hide it behind her smile.

After all, you always received more with honey than vinegar. Or some saying like that her father had preached every so often when in one of his moods.]

I don't think we've ever had a peaceful event without it being interrupted, to be honest.

[This wasn't her cup of tea, and Max hadn't really bothered to change her usual dress code to something more feminine or distinguished or anything else of the sort. The most she'd done was tie her hair back, and she thought that was effort enough. Currently she was busy cramming herself into a corner of the room with her back to the wall and managing to look pissed off and bored all at once.

The pushy servants around town had 'encouraged' her attendance until she'd given in with a graceless shriek of annoyance and stomped her way to the entrance. Since then time had been spent trying to blend and pointedly ignoring anything edible. Even if Dai hadn't provided, Max would have suspected some kind of tampering and wasn't in the habit of eating food she hadn't seen prepared anyway.]

You look as if you are enjoying yourself, Miss.

[Considering her position in the area, he really had no choice but to approach her head on. Unlike her, he'd at least taken a drink, well accustomed to Dai's fondness for parties and... pretty sure that he wouldn't dare tamper with the food if he was trying to win these people over.

But, nevermind that, he can understand her issue with the entire situation, food and drink included. Although it's quite possible she's never seen him before, he's changed to a suit and tie and does look well the part of someone attending a formal dinner.]

I'm assuming your presence was... strongly encouraged?

[The entire time it took the man to approach her was marked with a suspicious narrowing of the eyes. She casually slid out of the corner and faced him at what she felt was a less vulnerable point, arms remaining crossed as Max offered up a cross between a shrug and a humorless laugh.]

No, I skipped right in. I'm hoping they'll nominate me for homecoming queen.

[With a drink in hand and well-fitted attire, she rather felt like a hooligan in his presence. But then that was usually her part anyway, so Max allowed a quick smile. Being on sarcastic autopilot, however, she couldn't help the way it leaned more into a smirk.

It disappeared just as quickly.]

You're one of them, right?

[A small nod given with a small wry smile. Her sense of humor is welcome, considering the situation.

Although he's more here by choice, he was still somewhat held up with his back to the wall on it.]

I am. How many of us have you met?

[ And wasn't this nice? It cleaned up well, in the end, and had such a nice homely charm as things stood. How quaint.

There was really no prelude to Albedo's presence. He fell back on his leanings of discretion versus appearance, and slid in without a sound, angling along a wall until he reached a nook to look over the proceedings from. The cabbit following him sat quietly behind a heel, watching out as well.

There was obviously one Albedo was looking for--was curious about, of course, especially as to the reasons of this and the like--but at the time being, the boy wasn't closed to being interrupted from his musings on the nature of the people present. ]

[ there he was.

it might've been exaggerating to say that dai had been specifically waiting for albedo. after all, as the most welcoming, kindly, encouraging and genteel of all the magisters, any company at all was of utmost pleasure to him. or something like that. he might've forgotten a few of the other glorifying adjectives he embodied.

however, upon spotting him lingering there, a white lily lounging at corner discreetly with his familiar at his side, dai's gaze did become something minutely brighter and more focused. from there, it didn't take him long to curtly dismiss the servant he'd been engaged with, and cross the room towards him.

he didn't speak to him right away, but leaned up against the wall that intersected albedo's, watching the cosy little party with glass in hand. ah... really, this was going to be easier than he anticipated, if it was like this. he had more servants than the other magisters had allies. ]

[ The one who approached cut an impression through the crowd, Albedo giving his attention instantly, albeit quietly. He said nothing while Dai stopped and spoke--and it was to be small talk, then? Or genuine curiosity on a different place? Well, at the least Albedo could oblige with an answer that was not simply a yes or no.

He sought to entertain, after all.~ ]

Seeing as in that world, I'm viewed as a weapon and not as a child at all... I don't think those apply to me much.

[ Only here he smiled lightly, briefly amused. ] I don't think it'd have much of an affect on me, regardless.

[ His regeneration would burn it from him the instant it touched his system, in theory. It expelled all poisons in much the same manner. He'll do well to test, at some point. To see if the pattern held. ]

[ an answer he somewhat expected. of course; something simply created for the purpose wouldn't be weak to any such poison. dai grinned, tapping his fingertips against the glass, taking a light sip from it while he watched him. indeed, it was easy to forget that he was dealing with a weapon, when he still managed to smile like a child.

... but those words had no innocence or naivety to them at all. nothing else about him was half so convincing. ]

Tell me. [ licking his damp lips, he at once both gestured with the glass and outright offered it. ] Were you made in the guise of a child intentionally, in order to prey on those who are unassuming? Are you stuck as you are... or will you eventually become an adult, and live your life as normal?

[He wasn't sure why he was here, now that he was actually here. It was one of those things that he told himself he wasn't going to bother with, ignored it, and then somehow ended up here, anyway. He hadn't been pressured externally (otherwise there would have been a bloodbath trail leading all the way up the cathedral steps) and he simply equated it with nothing else going on and nothing else he could do with the spare time.

The real problem was that that was the truth as he stood over at the food, eying it rather suspiciously. Enough was enough, wasn't it about time the rest of them stuck here got to go home? Or were they the few that were punished to hell for the rest of their lives? He made a slight face and continued to glare at the food.

So far, nothing interesting had decided to turn up... but he knew better than that. He knew how these parties played in Nuadoria, by now. And something was bound to happen.]

[Despite growing up as a noble, Luke has never actually been to a party before. Events in the Manor in Baticul tended to be stuffy dinner affairs that he hadn't been allowed to attend even if he'd wanted to. It wasn't his fault table manners were so hard to remember, damn it...]

Hi here. [Luke helped himself to the food without much thought. It was there for the taking, right? Why else would it be there?]

[He chewed carefully and swallowed before turning to speak to the man next to him. Despite what Natalia and his parents said about him, his manner weren't that bad.]

Do you have any idea what's going on?

[Luke looks at Dai thoughtfully.]

So, do you think he's the bad guy?

[Whispered] The servants at the door didn't really make an effort to check for weapons. If anything happens, I've still got my sword.
