OMG it was pretty overwhelming. The place was beautiful and very relaxing although as I sat there and looked around the room I wanted to cry. All of us in that waiting room wanted the same thing and some of us may never get it. I'm trying to be positive though. The doctor was very nice. The doctor wanted to start with either laproscopy or IVF. He ( Read more... )

OB: You should be far enough along for us to do an abdominal ultrasound, otherwise we'll do a transvaginal.

MJ: No. We won't. I'm far enough along, obviously, but if I wasn't we'd wait.

OB: Okay then...

I think my OB's a little scared of me...

Why on earth wouldn't you want a transvaginal? I *HATE* the abdominal one because they always have to push so hard and I have to pee sooo bad. The transvag is much more comfortable for me.

Okay... first off, when you do get pregnant, toss aside the 'What To Expect' book. Never open it. My very first present to you when you share the news will be to send you a few Dr. Sears books.

Secondly I'm assuming that when there's no baby in the uterus they have to press hard to find it. They barely press at all when there's a baby there because the uterus is the most prominent thing in your abdomen.

Thirdly transvaginals carry a risk of introducing bacteria and causing an infection. Minimal, yes - but you tell me, how many minimal risks are you going to avoid just on the minute possibility of harming your baby?

And fourthly, I almost didn't let the guy do my examination. I was completely wigged and nearly rescheduled the appointment to be with the nurse practitioner. She can't deliver the baby, but she could do the preliminary examinations. The very instant he was done with the pap my legs slammed closed and I wasn't opening them again for anything. I seriously have an issue with guys who choose this for a career.

Ack! Well I don't have much choice in the matter. They have to do transvaginal during my stimulation time. It would be too much to have to drink a gallon of water and have them press on my stomach searching for my ovaries. The transvag is so not painful and quick. It only took 5 minutes for my transvag as opposed to 25 minutes of the horrible pain associated with my abdominal U/S. I don't know if the bacteria can get through what should be a closed cervix I would think that a woman would have bigger fish to fry than a transvag U/S. Bacterial vaginosis is pretty thrifty about getting to the vagina. Usually the acid produced by the lactobacillus stops them, but they do get in there quite often and spread before they die off.
