I was recently staying in a motel and the complimentary soap reminded me of my all time favorite salient detail in a fanfic; Fox Mulder smelled like Motel 6 soap.  (For the life of me, I can't remember the writer or the fic, but I was so jealous that I didn't come up with it first!)

As someone who's stayed in this motel chain, I can attest there'

Their sharing of books and ability to communicate better through borrowed words than their own.

And not just books, but their shared interest in hard-boiled stories. Once they build Bill's family background in Caprica, it made sense, but what's curious to me is where Laura's love of those sort of story came from. Perhaps hanging out at the boxing matches?

As much as I love their commonalities, I also find their differences fascinating and what makes their relationship interesting, such as her faith and his lack of one.

there's the smell of books and leather and glue (for his crafts) in his quarters.

i love when there's this kind of details in fanfictions because through tv you cannot smell anything and it's not the first thing that comes to mind but smell brings back memories like no other sense and it gives a whole other dimension to the pictures in your mind *-*

and i love (i mean i hate it but it's a good read if you're into angst like no other) when there's reality to the diloxin treatements or his alcohol problem aftermath because... as interesting to bring the angst in fanfictions as it is, it's also ugly most of the time in reality

Yes, scent is such a great tool for the writer that the filmmaker lacks! Galactica with its filtered air would be such a blank slate of smells. :D

Bill would definitely smell of strong soap and toothpaste. :D

I agree - I do really like (like is probably not the right word, but appreciate, maybe) it when fanfic writers really nail the nitty gritty of cancer treatments and Bill's alcoholism? Because I always felt like it really is large part of "their" story and important.

Unless I'm in the mood for pure fluff, in which case I'll just read something fluffy instead :) lol

Strangely, one of the things that has stuck most clearly in my mind about Laura is what Bill says to her "When did you become so bloody-minded?", in the Pegasus arc. It is something that comes to my mind frequently when I think of Laura.
