Hi everyone. I'm really happy I found this community. I am going for my first surgical abortion on Friday, and it's been a tremendous relief to read some experiences from other women. I have has 3 abortions myself. I can tell you that although surgical abortion is considered 'surgery', you are not 'cut' into, and it is really not as invasive as you would think.
Your cervix is dilated to the proper amount, and then a suction cannula is used to remove the contents of the uterus. You can IV sedation with the procedure, and that would help with pain. I had an IV twilight sedation, and my abortion was painless.
Surgical abortion also does not take a very long time, it takes about 5 minutes, sometimes even less.
I am sending out 'supportive' vibes to you.

I found the procedure more invasive than a pap smear, but only by a bit. I felt very little during mine though.

i don't react well to hormones either. I hate hormonal BC. I turn into a depressed zombie.
Regarding the herbs, there's no harm in trying so long as one is careful and knows what one is doing, but the strong possibility is that the first pregnancy was destined to end in miscarriage as opposed to being ended by herbal intervention. Early miscarriage is very common, and as you are finding out in this pregnancy, herbs are not a reliable form of abortifacient. It's very difficult to end a pregnancy without medical intervention or specialized medications.

I had my doubts about the herbs the first time, but I read the entirety of the Sister Zeus website and some other websites that I found on the topic before I began. I knew I didn't want to mess myself up! I actually took smaller does than I was supposed to. So perhaps you're right; that I was destined to have a miscarriage anyway.
Well, tomorrow's the big day. Thanks to everyone who replied to this, and I'll be back over the weekend or sometime next week to tell you all about it. I have a feeling that it's going to be much easier than I'm letting myself believe. I've been through childbirth, tooth extractions, and a chest tattoo... not much worse pain than those things in this world, far as I'm concerned. :)
