And they say they want to be respected...

I don't really feel like re-narrating the passing of the night's events while I was working at the cafe. So instead, I'll paste a copy of the letter I just e-mailed to my college newspaper about the incident:

"I'm a barista at Aroma Cafe in downtown Champaign. Friday night I had the misfortune of dealing with inconsiderate patrons from an adjacent ( Read more... )

You might want to start a "peeing under supervision" thing. Like, you let them use the bathroom and once they're done, you politely ask them to wait until after you've inspected the premises.
If you find that they didn't pee, but "leaked" all over the place, take names and ID and tell them they are barred from using the bathrooms from your store, or something like that?

Of course, it means you pretty much still have to clean. But, at least, you'll be weeding out the bad ones. :\

I don't know... that may fall under invasion of privacy. I don't think you can legally do that.

But maybe you can. You'd have to check.

Well, I fail to see how waiting until they are done and exiting the shop to ask them to wait and pretty much telling them they will not be allowed to use the bathrooms as "invasion of privacy" since nobody's in the bathroom at the same time they are?

And heck, I'd call purposedly pissing all over the place pretty much "bodily fluid vandalism". So, really... asking people to take responsability for their (stupid) actions is just and fair, IMHO.

Can't piss right? Can't piss here. :3

Otherwise, those "customers" should think about investing in adult diapers for those situations. :3

Generally, I would tend to agree with--

You know what? Screw that statement. I FULLY agree with you. I have a VERY negative opinion of frat/sororities. I tend to despise the personalities of the people that join them, I don't like the loud/irratating atmosphere they create, and I REALLY hate their "we're drunk and having fun, so we can get away with ANYTHING!" attitude they have.

Yeah, I was trying be careful about not labeling the entire Greek community of being guilty of such behavior, but truth be told, I've yet to see an overall positive net effect of what they're trying to accomplish.

They talk about brotherhood, social work, volunteering and such, but when all you see is loud parties, heavy consumption of alcohol and complete lack of consideration for everyone but themselves, it's impossible to see any of these "good" things about being part of their community.

*pats you on the back and ruffles your fur* Good job writing that. I really hope they print it. It would be really great if universities could get some dialog going about this kind of thing, maybe start treating college alcoholism like the problem it is.

You and me both. :)

I'm not really expecting the letter to change much of anything, but it definitely can't hurt.

A sign that says "out of order" usually will take care of it. Well, and a lock.

That'd make using the restroom a bit trickier for our customers. XD

It shouldn't be an issue anymore though.
