so my first topic here is a bit late, but i have a pretty damn good excuse...i have been in china for the last week, just arrived back home now, having been traveling for 18 hours. no internet in tibet

Well, I do agree with your mom that at least some of it is a waste of time. I think praying is a waste of time, no matter who is praying, or who they are praying to.

I actually regard "selfish" religions with higher esteem then I do the "selfless" ones.

It seems odd to me though that seeking a higher level of spirituality with in yourself would be marked as selfish.

Helping others to please a higher power seems more selfish to me.
