Chapter 1- Encountering Sakurai Sho

“Risa-chan, you always wanted to pursue a career as a singer so here’s your chance to turn into one.” Risa’s father said as he placed his arms on his desk. Risa sighed and crossed her legs. “Otosan, do you really believe that people are willingly to listen to my music seriously. Look at the rich people who tried to become singers as well. Now look at their lives. I don’t want my life to end up like that.”

Her father shrugged his shoulders and sighed. “Well I know your life will turn out differently. You took vocal lessons and everyone has praised you on your singing. I know you can succeed if you try.”

Risa rolled her eyes and folded her arms. “People just encouraged me because I’m a daughter of an owner of a TV station. Of course, they only care about how much money I have.”

“Risa-chan!” Her father shouted at me. Risa sighed again and slowly nodded her head. “Fine. But if I’m not successful, it’s all your fault.” Risa got up and started to leave his office. As Risa was leaving her father’s office, she heard her father chuckling.

Her father picked up his cell phone and dialed a number. “Taka-san, I think she’s ready to face the entertainment world.” Her father said and started to smirk.

Risa walked inside a music studio and she saw many posters of autographs of famous singers. She smiled as she saw some people she recognized. “You must be Kitano Risa-san.” Risa turned her head to see a tall lady walking towards her. She was fair, pretty and she was wearing a white blouse and a black skirt. Risa took off her sunglasses and bowed her head. “Domo.”

The lady widened her eyes and was startled. “You must have thought that I don’t have manners… Don’t worry, my parents brought up me well.” Risa said in a sarcastic tone. Risa knew that people thought badly of her because she was a rich daughter but she wanted to prove people wrong, so she took lessons on Japanese manners.

The lady nodded her head quickly and started to smile. “I’ll show you to your recording studio. Currently, Sakurai Sho-san is in the recording studio. He is just finishing up and it will be available to you soon.” Risa nodded her head slowly and started to follow the lady.

As they walked, Risa began to look around the building. She saw some famous artists through the doors with windows. She was surprised that many artists come here to record their famous songs.

“Here is your recording studio. You can walk in and wait until they’re finished.” The lady said and left Risa standing in front of a door. Risa took a deep breath in before she walked inside the recording studio.

Risa walked inside and then she heard someone singing. She looked around to see her manager Taka-san, sitting and listening to the recording. Risa sighed quietly and sat beside him. She nudged him and asked. “Why are we here? Shouldn’t we have our own recording studio?” He shook his head and whispered. “All the studios are filled today. This is the only studio that would be free after a recording.”

Risa folded her arms and stared at Sho, who was in the recording booth. It looked like he was sparkling as he sang. Also he raps were smooth and touching. He was looking at a piece of paper as she sang. He was singing for a new Arashi song.

“It’s a rare occasion that you get to hear a professional sing in front of your eyes. Make sure you take some notes.” Taka-san said. Risa slowly nodded her head and closed her eyes. Sho’s singing and the music flowed through her ears. It felt like one was at one of their live concerts.

“Great work, Sakurai-san. You’re done for the day.” Risa opened her eyes as she saw Sho walking towards her. “Ah, gomen. You must have been waiting for the recording booth for a while.” Sho bowed his head to me. Risa got up and waved her hands. “Iie. I just arrived here. Anyways, my father is a big fan of yours.” She bowed her head to him and smiled.

He laughed and smiled back. While Sho was smiling, Risa was thinking that his smile almost looks like a chipmunk. She giggled and Sho furrowed his eyebrows. Risa widened her eyes and bowed her head again. “Ah, hajimemashite. My name is Kitano Risa.”

He bowed his head back and said. “Hajimemashite, my name is Sakurai Sho.”

“Ah, Risa-chan. The music for your song is not working. I think there’s something wrong with the cd. I’ll try to get another copy of the music so wait here until I come back.” Taka-san started to panic and quickly ran away.

Risa sighed and placed a hand on her forehead. Now Risa has to wait even longer for the music to be ready. “Ah, honto ni gomenasai. If I wasn’t late for the recording, we wouldn’t be having this problem..” Sho bowed his head again. She waved her hands to him and then placed a hand on his shoulder. “Ah, it’s not your fault. It’s okay. I don’t think my manager is going to take a long time with finding another copy of the music.”

Sho looked up at me and he sighed in relief. “Sho-kun, you can go home now.” His manager said and left the recording booth. Sho nodded his head to him and Risa sat down on the sofa.

“How about I stay with you until your manager comes back?” Sho said as he sat down beside me. She looked at him and raised one of her eyebrows. “Are you sure?” He chuckled and nodded his head. “This was my last work for the day. Plus, it’s only 4:30 p.m. I have a lot of time to spare.”

Risa bit her lip and nodded her head. “Okay, if you say so..” She smiled and got up. “Want to come with me for a drink run?” Risa looked down towards Sho and asked him. He nodded his head and then Risa looked at the producer who was still working on something. “Do you want a drink as well?” She asked him. He looked at her and nodded his head. “Tea.” She smiled and then grabbed her purse. Sho opened the door for Risa. Risa was surprised and thought that it was very gentlemanly for him.

“Ummm, Sakurai-san. Do you mind if I ask you a question?” Risa asked him and he looked at her. They were walking towards the vending machines that were located at the front of the building. “Sure.” He smiled at her and then they turned around a corner.

“Where do you find the courage to stand in front of millions of people? If you make one mistake, don’t you find yourself embarrassed?” He chuckled and started to scratch his head. “It comes naturally to me now. Before I was so scared that I used to go to the washroom a few times before I appear on TV or on stage.”

Risa slowly nodded her head and widened her eyes when she saw the vending machines. “So, are you still nervous when you’re in front of a crowd?” Risa asked him as she placed some coins into the vending machines.

Sho cocked his head and laughed. “I guess so but when I’m with Arashi, I don’t feel so nervous. They’re my friends and my members. We stick together; we succeed together or either fail together.” She smiled and giggled. “You really cherish your members. That’s good, at least you have people you can lean on.”

Risa grabbed 4 bottles of tea. Then she handed one to Sho. “Here. It’s a thank you gift for sharing your story with me. I feel inspired to do anything now.” Risa smiled and walked towards the recording studio.

“Risa-chan..” Sho shouted. Risa tossed around and cocked her head. “Hm?”

Sho was speechless; he noticed that Risa was beautiful as she gracefully turned around. Sho looked down at the floor and then he stared at her. “Do you mind if I call you Risa-chan?”

Risa widened her eyes and nodded her head. Then she smiled at him. She started looking at Sho. Sho looked happy because he fell in love with her.

“Are you coming?” Risa asked and then she turned back around. Sho nodded his head and quickly catch up to Risa who was waiting for him.

“Ne, after when we get back to the recording studio. Do you mind if we exchange numbers? In the future, I might need to ask you for some more advice.” Sho nodded his head and deep down in his heart, he was happy that Risa wanted to exchange numbers.

“Yatta.” Sho muttered. Risa furrowed her eyebrows and looked at Sho. “Did you say something?” Risa asked. Sho started to sweat and he shook his head. “Iie. I was talking to myself.” Risa giggled as Sho tried to hide his flushed face from her.
