[She's in the park, a good fifty feet or so away from the lake.]

I built a sonic screw driver back home. I figured replicating one here would be helpful. Given the appearance of this tree, I need to speed along my building. Does anyone know of where I can find any technology or building materials to aid in this?

[ So close to asking if she's not calling it a probe anymore then, but Rory will just shut himself up before that. 8I ]

If there's anything in particular you can think of, I could always go out looking. [ It's the best he's got by way of helping since he hasn't explored much or... ever made a sonic screwdriver. ]

I don't think you'd know what I was talkin' about if I told you. You had trouble pluggin' things in. [Skeptical.]

Is it all quantum physics and rocket science? [ Damn terminology. Uhhh. ] I think I can work with vague descriptions and sketches.

[ 'looks kind of like a teapot handle if it were made of rock candy, tap it three times and see if it turns cerulean' he doesn't even know. ]

Less rocket science, Rory. More... sonic probing. [She blinks.]

I may need to go scavaging.

Ma'am, please do not stand so close to that lake! The tree, whatever it is, is potentially very dangerous.

I've dealt with worse.

You don't understand. That wave of energy that swept through the city? It's now centered around that tree. Even getting close to it, I and several others can feel a malignant and sapient presence there. It's not safe to stand so close to it.

Well considerin' I have nothing left to lose, it still doesn't matter. I mean to see what it is.

It is like a scanner. A smaller version of a computer.

More advanced. It does much more than this. My cell phone did what these things could.

I don't know what a sonic screwdriver is supposed to do, but if you need an engineer, I know one.

It's sort'a like a scanner that reads... everything.

...Does it actually work as a screwdriver?

Nope. Can't unlock wooden locks either.

[She holds up a regular old screwdriver.] I assume you don't mean one of these, because if so, I have plenty.

Umm, no. Sonic screwdrivers are different.

Nothing’s ever that easy.

What is a sonic screwdriver and how do you make one?

It's a probe. I need fine wires and thin metal.
