Having made it out of the morgue and away from the hospital with Il Lupo and Alistair in decent enough condition, mounting frost-bite aside, Alex was currently picking through a rack of high-end clothing in one of the high-end fashion retail stores in the empty city square that he may or may not have half-attempted-lockpicked, half-smashed-the-door-window-with-a-rock (you don't go a couple years over prison without picking up some tricks, okay ( ... )

Charles was briefly paused at a store front, his brows drawn together in a puzzled frown as he saw all the goods within, looking almost perfectly preserved or as if they were waiting for something. The clarion clear voice sounded like an echoing shout in a head that felt like it was stuffed with cotton and he hissed.

Prof... what? Who?

Wheeling around in a circle, Charles immediately studied the landscape around him, looking for the speaker of the voice, certain someone must have been talking to him directly. He'd never heard a clear thought aimed at him, calling his name like that from anyone but Raven and the young, masculine voice was certainly not Raven.

Who the bloody hell are you?!

That... took him aback a little. A lot. Enough to make him stop in his tracks as he left the store. He plopped down on a curb, taking a second to pull the shoes he grabbed on and just... figure this out.

Alex? Alex Summers? Havok? Maybe 'Professor' hadn't been the right thing to call him. Maybe it made him feel old. Well he shouldn't wear Grandpa sweaters and talk like Sherlock Holmes if he didn't want to feel old. Or maybe it was just one of his weird humor things Alex never really got. Now's really not the time to try to be funny, Charles.

Whatever, back to business. Having tied up his shoes, he tried for something more useful.

I picked up some clothes. You need any?

Who?! the demand came a little more stringently and there was a hint of gathering power behind it an edge of Charles wanting to just dive in and get the answer himself but trying to hold back.

I don't know who you are, Alex Summers?

As for clothes, he looked down at the scrubs they'd found at the hospital. Now that he was out in the night air he was considerably colder and the thought of one of his sweaters was one he felt with longing but no ... wait, he was getting distracted.

Mentally he reached out and tried to grab at the voice talking to him.

WHO ARE YOU?!

Billy had left the hospital after a while, guessing there had to be a lot more to this place than just the creepy assed abandoned hospital, after of course reassuring Steve and Pepper. After all, he had friends to find, he was sure he was still somewhere he could reach them. Outside it didn't seem any better than inside, he'd never seen somewhere look so...dead? Quiet? What happened here? Where were all the people? The noise ( ... )

Billy's voice was loud in the silence, clear as a bell compared to the rest of the muffled whispers in his head but Charles didn't trust it. Except for Kurt and Christine, he hadn't been able to clearly identify anyone and honestly ...

Well, honestly, he wasn't entirely certain Billy was truly there.

Hunching his shoulders, thinking of himself as being as small as possible, Charles ducked his head and kept walking. Physically at least. Mentally, well, mentally he might have just probed back, a single, pensive tendril just in case, just in case the voice ... was real?

Billy saw the man change his demeanour and was a little thrown off by it. Had this guy always been here? Was he just trying to ignore the spooky new person coming out of no where? Surely other people here would cling to...well other people?

He felt the probe, though he still wasn't sure. But he could guess what it was and what it meant. He took a deep breath and ran closer to the man walking around. He jogged to a stop as he got closer and offered a friendly smile.

"Hey. Uhm, weird question but...did you just wake up here as well? Well, hospital wake up."

But it was so cute! excessivehubris November 26 2011, 01:55:01 UTC
He heard the young man's feet on the ground behind him and felt his approach along the tendril he'd cast out towards him. The mind felt real, the footsteps sounded real and honestly, beyond waking up in a morgue freezer, Charles had never been given to actual delusions.

If Kurt and Christine had been here with him, perhaps it wasn't impossible to assume there were actually others?

Stopping, Charles turned towards the young and goodness he was young indeed, man, responding to the friendly smile with a gentle twitch of his own lips.

"Ah," he began. "Yes? I suppose?"

[Against her better judgment, Raven had left the hospital as soon as she got a chance as well. It was mostly that damn toe-tag, the MUTANT staring her right in the face, and the fear that came with wondering who knew, who knew her secret and tried to pass her off as dead in this eerily empty city. So now she was outside, trying to give herself five minutes to breathe and think of a plan, clutching onto the weird walky-talky that wouldn't shut up. The on/off switch must have been broken, which was really great for her nerves, really. The only difference in her clothing now was a pair of very plain slippers, but otherwise she wore the same thin hospital gown everyone else was wearing as she wandered around the streets.

Until, of course, she found a clothing store. It was a small positive to an otherwise long list of negatives about her day, but it at least gave her a reason to slip into an alley and shift into an outfit that matched the one in the window. Which included denim pants, something usually meant for boys, but. Whatever. The ( ... )

[He'd given up expecting her to respond, it was just too cold and too lonely in the part of his mind where she usually resided. So when he heard her voice, he about snapped his head off his shoulders, the speed with which he whipped around and looked for her.]

Raven? [Charles called out, hope and joy touching his mental signature for the first time since he'd woken and he cast his mind quickly along the lines where he'd felt her.] Oh God, Raven!?

Yes! [Her vision blurred suddenly, and oh, gosh, was she crying? She felt overwhelmingly relieved, but. Wow. Raven hadn't realized how scared she was at the idea of being here alone until that moment, and she found herself running before she even knew where he was.] Tell me where you are. Tell me you're okay!

[Charles can't decide which emotion is paramount, relief that she's here or a growing, mounting horror that she's trapped in this strange, wrong place with him. For the moment, he doesn't care and is turning about abruptly to head back in her direction, even as he calls her to him.

His mental touch is a jumble of images, a wide empty street, lots of shops, landmarks to help guide her.]

Raven, Raven I woke up in a morgue freezer and there was a man and Raven he was blue like you and he had a tail but why did I wake up in a morgue freezer and whereareyouwhereareyou??

[The words are a quick, slightly hysterical jumble and he's stopped by a set of signs, sending them to her and then waiting, shifting from foot to foot anxiously.]

It was this mind, so like his but not, that had brought him out of the hospital. Wearing only the flattering hospital gown underneath a long doctors coat and a pair of slightly too tight sneakers from an open locker, Charles had rushed out to try and find the apex, the central point where this other mind was.

It was loud. Very much so. He wanted to call to it, but not till he was closer. It worried him so much that it felt just like himself, which made no sense but... but who knew here. He didn't know what to expect. And perhaps his focus on this one person's mind was what kept him from noticing the familiar ones around him, but he ends up nearing this other mind eventually and he'll give a tentative mental call to him.

Hello? This might be a bit intrusive, but I think you're like me.

Literally. Also it was a bit strange to hear 'himself' calling mentally for Raven. He'd have to get to that after he satisfied his curiosity and found out who this person was.

He was now closer to the clock tower than the hospital, his focus almost entirely on the structure and the questions that people kept asking. Alex's harsh words in particular were sticking with him, not the insults so much as the insistence that Charles figure out what was going on.

Hello?

The touch had Charles skidding to a stop and whirling around, wide eyed as he had never, in his life felt a touch that focused and powerful. Raven, when she thought at him, was like the brush of a small feather, the keen awareness more on his side than her own but this. This was like a crystal clear voice that cut through the tumble of unfocused voices he was used to hearing. It was also like listening to himself on a recorder, tone and vocabulary along with telepathic signature ( ... )

A response! He'd gotten a response. Along with an attempt at delving into his mind, but no matter. Charles wouldn't let that happen, not after dealing with Emma before. But he would 'catch' that little tendril, curiously explore it before sending it back.

Walking closer, feeling himself get physically closer to the other, he'll answer him. Himself. Whoever this was.

I think we've both gone 'round the bend, to be honest. Or perhaps this place just does that to people. I cannot say really. How strange was it speaking to himself? Strangest thing he'd ever done so far in his life.

Did you come from the hospital as well? Or did you already live here?

The tendril exploration sort of tickled, which was indeed a curious thing that had Charles returning what exploration he could, before it was sent back to himself.

Pushing away from the wall he was leaning against, Charles considered walking towards the other's presence but the clock tower was so close now and his curiosity was peaked. Shoving his hands into the pocket of the jacket Alex had given him, Charles started walking once again.

Besides he had a way to communicate that didn't care about physical distance.

I've always wondered what madness would feel like, he offered a bit ruefully. Did not expect it to come in the form of a dead city, people trying to tell me they know me and talking to myself. Though I suppose that last one is a key indicator of being a bit cracked. It slowly dawned on him, at that moment that if he stood still and let the other approach, he could see for himself what physical form was attached to the touch and feel of his own mind. So he stopped and stood still, a small figure in hospital scrubs, ( ... )
