Evidentally some departments are starting to axe the qual/prelim and ask their students to prepare a portfolio of work: Portfolios Instead of Quals? I think this could be a really great idea if done properly. What do you guys think?

Evidently Madison broke the 100in mark for total snow fall for this winter according to the local news, shattering the previous 76.1in record.

I'm going to Charlottesville! I've accepted an offer for a joint UVa/NRAO postdoc there with K.J. Now I guess I just have to finish my thesis. :-)

Well, somehow I got access to the Hulu public beta (also known as where the NBC shows reside). It's pretty much what I expected -- much like the current NBC web interface but with nicer design, buffering and controls. You can't download the episodes and you have to watch the commercials. NBC, please come back to iTunes! Cave to Steve!
