Your aunt Vi sounds like she was a very unhappy, self-loathing, angry woman.

Someone to pity, as you already know.

That remark about your being retarded is cruel and thoughtless; sorry you had to have heard that.

Most of my own family thinks on me as being retarded, even now, still, and I am 54.

But they are sad, angry people. I don't feel as angry at them as I used to be, but they are still like your aunt Vi - something to be avoided.

"Family" like that are the ones who miss out on TRULY getting to know the ones they put down.

Sad for them.

(((BIG HUGS))

Ps- I didn't learn how to successfully tie my own shoelaces till I was 6 or 7, so, you weren't
the only one! I was already painting, drawing and writing at a level far above the level of other children my age then.

Roger... don't be ashamed or upset that you had no grief at her death. We are taught that we must love our blood relatives, and that is a lie.
People earn our love and relatives are no different... and that includes parents and sibs. Those closest to us have the best chance of verbally hurting us. We trust them to help and protect us and when they are unnecessarily cruel, WE feel guilty about our anger. I have lots of experience here.... ask sometime and I will share.
