LJ Searching

Aug 19, 2006 08:34

I need a way to look through my old LiveJournal entries -- I was trying to find one of my translations into Japanese and, naturally, my subject lines I read while flipping through the "calendar" option did me no good at all...

Anyone have any suggestions??

Download LJ Archive (do a google search to find it)
Load all your journal entries using this software
Search for the text...using its search feature...
Plus...you will now have a backup of all your LJ entries on your PC

Isn't that what tags are for?

Tags help in finding tagged material. They are not an index in and of themselves unless the user tags every concept in the entry, which is a bit overboard, even for an anal-retentive Virgo like me.

Besides, tags are a fairly recent addition, and not everyone has gone back and added tags to entries prior to their inception.

Umm also I think Google started publically indexing all non-protected entries - whether you wanted them to or not and whether you selected allow search engines in your profile, but that's a paranoid rant for another time.

You could search on google and probably find your post. It's under the beta section under "blog search" - not the normal google.

That and LJ Archive is pretty cool.

You could also do one of those ljbook things and then search through the pdf file that results.

Why not use the search function that's built into LiveJournal? It's on your UserInfo page. (Click the magnifying glass icon.) The main flaw is that it doesn't index entries from before it was introduced, which was a couple years back.

Heheheh, and that was my problem -- most of what I wanted was back in 2001-2002, so it's not finding what I wanted. ^^;;;

But thank you nena. (HUG)
