I am very very angry and am in danger of turning into my new fictional hero, Janet Barch. So amuse me by having a flame war on which is a better pet: a cat or a dog. Feel free to bring in neglected pets that are all to often ignored in these important arguments.

Keep in mind this subject matter when debating plz.

entertain me, discuss, lol

Ferrets! I love ferrets! And no one else on the planet seems to. I don't get it, it's like the best of both worlds! You get the same maintenance plan as a cat (similar lifespan, never wash with water, feed from a small food bag, clean a litter box) but all the playfulness of a dog (ferrets can even be trained to fetch!). Seriously, BEST PETS EVER.

Oh they're great! My brother has one and she's adorable and fun to play with and I like how she keeps the big dogs under control. If I wasn't so attached to kittens, I'd get one.

Dude, both. NOTHING is more hilarious than watching a ferret play with a cat!

Exhibit A.
Exhibit B.
Exhibit C.
Exhibit D.

(Warning: cats and ferrets alike play rough, so it may look like they're fighting. You can tell they're not, however, based on the lack of signs of aggression. Cats fluff themselves up to look bigger when they feel threatened and they hiss when they want anyone or anything to back off. When ferrets feel threatened, they hide until it goes away. Neither species will lay on its back and offer up its belly willingly to a perceived predator. Mostly, these cats and ferrets are playing with each other in the literal exact same way that litters of ferrets and litters of kittens interact with their brothers and sisters when they're little.

...I mention it only 'cause of a few YouTube commenters on the vids above bitching about the poster being a sick person, "making their animals fight like that.")

XD

Gotta say cats. Sure, they act like THEIR the ones in charge. But having lived with cats for twenty years I can honestly say they make life so much more interesting. They know when your sad or sick and they cuddle with you in those times. They have as much personality as any human. They do silly things that make you smile. They are intellegent to the point that they often train their owner rather than the other way around. (My cat totaly has my brother trained. It's amusing to watch. lol)

And they are soft and cute. (Which, yeah, dogs are too, but cats are a smaller kind of soft and cute. Which means when they leap on you while your sleeping it hurts less.)

Dogs are great because they're so easy to please, but cats are great because they're so mysterious.
I love both.
Rats are super though.

Dogs are best because they have the loyalty and devotion thing going for them. Cats are awfully nice, too, and need less individual attention, but doggy devotion is a winner.

...That said, I wouldn't want either a cat or a dog. I vote for bunnies. Much cuter!
