There are definitely parts of the city to be avoided as the afternoon winds down, and evening approaches.  Not everywhere in Gotham is the Narrows, however.  This is a nice little park in one of the richer neighborhoods.  It's not very crowded on account of it being a colder Monday evening, and a bit out of the way ( Read more... )

It's been a long Monday, for Peter. His after-school activities don't usually take him this far afield, well outside the Narrows. Far enough outside, actually, that he's not sure of the precise direction home. That's what he gets for not paying attention while stalking a carjacker he couldn't stop, trying to follow them to roost. He lost them when they abandoned the car. Joy-riders then, not chop-shoppers. Not as bad. In this neighborhood, the police will even find the car before the scavengers do. They might even return it to the original owner.

He could find his way home afoot, and probably without too much trouble, either, but the light's just begun to shade golden, evening coming on, and he'd never make it home by dark. And he promised Aunt May. The park, with its ornamental bushes and sheltered nooks, looks like the perfect place to hide for just a moment to change.

Until he almost runs into the only other person here. And their- "... Geez, what is that?" asks the boy in the duct-tape mask.

Oh, Peter.

She'll blink at you a few times, and then blink at Adrian. And smile at the cat.

"Gotham, huh?" What can you do?

"Veidt," he says, which would be more of an introduction if the boy weren't wearing duct tape and suddenly freaking out that he has to run, because another person walked up, but you do what you can. "You're welcome."

Bubastis does not recall informing Peter that petting time is over. She pulls at the lead, then flops onto the ground. Well, -somebody- better pet her.

"Gotham," he replies, watching Peter's retreat.

Whaaat the hell.

"Sorry to interrupt." It is a public park, though, after all. And Selina would be happy to pet Bubastis. There is the customary introductory hand before she tries for scritching. "After the city in Egypt, yes?"

"Really? Wow. Nice to meet you!" This is all said as he is getting out of there, though he doesn't break into a jog until he's gone around a bend in the path, out of sight.

If he hurries and finds somewhere to change, he can still catch a bus home tonight.

"I didn't think that you were interrupting." Huh. Shine on, you crazy duct tape diamond. He looks thoughtful, for a moment, keeping an eye on the cat, still, of course.

Bubastis is great with this. This will do, humans. Never mind that rolling on the ground gets dirt in her soft fur and tangles her up with the harness. This is living!

"Yes, that's right."

Now there shall be belly-scritching! Carefully. Very much like someone who knows what they're doing.

"Who's a kitty? Whooo's a kitty? You're a kitty!"

Ahem.

"Have you ever been? It's kind of sad, now, but there's a feeling to the air there... It's certainly something else."

Bubastis happens to be a kitty! My word! How wonderful that she happens to be here now to be -the- kitty! She is a very well socialized critter, but might get playful if her belly is rubbed for too long. That shouldn't be a problem at all, if Selena knows what she's doing.

"I have. It's one thing to read about a place..." Adrian says, which is a little bit of an understatement, but then again, the woman did just walk up.

Amazingly, she kind of does. Her hands manage to not be where the claws are.

"Alexandria was pretty neat, as well. Like what they did with the library."

Scritch, scritch, scritch!

He is, overall, impressed with how she's doing with the lynx. Of course, he spent a considerable amount of time in Egypt, and will even, on occasion, go on and on about it. "Of all the words I could use to describe the place, 'pretty neat' would be... a humorous understatement." Not that it's a barb, or that there's any sarcasm in his tone.

All in all, Selina liked Europe better. Massive amounts of sand just aren't comfortable. And neither are swamps. Ick.

"How about 'peachy keen?' Damn fine coffee in that place, too."

Look, more scritching. Perhaps even chin-scritching!

"You get accosted by young men in duct tape masks while walking your huge kitten often, Mister Veidt?"

Now, that would be a debate he'd enjoy. For now, he will smile, laugh quietly about it being 'peachy keen', and kneel to also pay attention to the cat, who is being a complete, shameless sponge right now.

"No, only every few days, since I've moved here." Pause. "That was very odd." Odd in a worrying sort of way. The kid had better not go get himself shot.

"It's Gotham." What can you do?

Apparently you can rub lynx belly, is what you can do.

"Gotten a lot weirder recently, though. Why someone that isn't a native would want to set up shop here is utterly beyond me. Especially now."
