Daniel had made the decision to put in his two week's notice even before the revelation -- or the massive practical joke -- that "Rameses" in Eddie's chatroom whom he'd talked to a few times was apparently Adrian Veidt. As in, Veidt Enterprises. And that he'd asked Daniel to send in his resume ( Read more... )

Assume for a moment that it had been a joke, that someone put a small amount of effort into lurking in a chat with a reputation for "local color", not announcing who they were and not saying much, to eventually find someone with potential (and not certifiable mental disorders), have a few conversations with them, and then lied about who they were in order to get this someone to send off a resume to Veidt Enteprises. It wouldn't exactly be trolling, even if it were a ruse, would it? What would be the point of that? What's the worst that could happen? Some personable HR director might call, and try to set up an interview? Hilarious!

Sure, sure. Looking at it logically, it's almost certainly not a joke. But the idea of something good happening, of a break like that, for Daniel, in Gotham, is just a little too difficult to accept, at least starting out.

The call from the HR director does wonders as far as convincing him goes, though. He's quite polite and friendly throughout the conversation, though it takes a little longer than he'd like to figure out a good time for the interview. (Tuesday morning seems to work out pretty well, in the end.)

Once he hangs up, then it's time to freak out.

And, on Tuesday morning, if he does, indeed, show up, there will be no end of nice, helpful people there to get him herded to his interview. He will be there, won't he?

Well, yeah. He may be a Nervous Nellie (as Gran used to say) but he's not going to break an appointment. Especially not this one. He's there fifteen minutes early, in his best suit and tie, all polite greetings and pleasant smiles.

Professional mode: On.
