Stein stared at Alessa's soul through the door, hoping for several minutes that she would just go away and he wouldn't have to deal with it.

Once he realized that wasn't about to happen, though, he got up and answered the door. Besides, if she really wanted to, Stein knew she didn't have to knock.

The cookies were a bit of a shock, though.

"Hi, Mr. Stein!"

She gave him a sweet smile, as if she hadn't totally torn his mind apart a couple weeks ago, and held out the tray proudly.

"I made cookies with Toris! Want some?"

Stein eyed those cookies warily. God knows they were probably poisoned or going to make him hallucinate or something. And he wasn't sure if that smile was a peace offering, or simply trying to lull him into a false sense of security.

"Are they good?" Being 'good' also implied that they wouldn't fuck him up in any sort of horrible way, Stein just hoped Alessa got the hint about that.

"They're apple cookies. They're really tasty if you like apples, but I guess not if you don't." She dipped her head, smile still in place. "But Toris made sure I was baking them right. He taught me. So don't worry--they won't make you sick or something!"

She got the hint, so she replied in a similarly vague manner.
