[ After trying to get bead number ten up and failing, Molly wraps the beads back around her wrist and actually notices, y'know... that there are curious people. ]

Oh, yeah, kind of. I'm Harry's apprentice, technically, I'm not fully trained or anything.

Ah, so less explosions than what we see with Mr. Dresden?

It's still impressive, coming from a world where magic is considered a joke or a sham.

Yeah, I'm not really good at big explody magic. Wouldn't be even if I were more trained, I don't really have that sort of power. I'm good at fiddly things, though. I'm really good at veils. Uh, making it so that people or things are invisible. That's what I was doing during the breakout.

I guess. I've known Harry since I was a kid, though. He's friends with my dad.

What I'm saying is that there has to be some sort of logical application to your powers. How does this form of magic work?

After last week's little display? Wouldn't doubt it. You'll have those up in no time, and then I hope you're ready for some more practical lessons. [he looks up from where he's working on a huge sheet of rolled-out paper, a complex magic circle drawn on it with what looks like space for two people to sit and lend power.]

Because here, we get creative.

[ #10 was a bust, alas, but all other awkwardness and unsurness in her life right now aside, she has no doubt that she'll be able to do this. That, at least, is something good that came from the trauma of the breakout. She knows she can do things she doesn't feel are possible, if she works at it.

She grins curiously and peers at the image, trying to make out details. ]

Surgery.

Since coming here I worked out a kind of healing magic that I don't think strictly existed back home. It's complicated and takes a lot of focus as well as a lot of power, and it's way beyond what you're capable of right now.

But we're in charge of medical right now, it looks like, the interns who put us back together when we died are gone.

If we're on our own, we need as much healing power as we can get our hands on, and this is a circle made to let you help me out with some of that.

[ Bead #10, alas, does not cooperate, and Molly lets the other nine drop before wrapping the whole contraption around her wrist again. ]

Yeah, sort of. Boss gave me this to make me practice on focusing. 'Cause I can't just lift a bead and forget it, I have to concentrate on keeping each individual one up. So it's really tough. That's the most I've been able to do pretty much ever, I think.
