Molly Carpenter /\ Second Veil \/ Video

[ The video's really meant for Harry, but she doesn't really know how to work the filtering system yet, and she doesn't much care, to be honest. She's sitting lotus-style on her bed (in her new apartment EEEEE!), her faciliberry propped up against some pillows, and she's holding a long leather thong with fifteen wooden beads on it out in front of ( Read more... )

After last week's little display? Wouldn't doubt it. You'll have those up in no time, and then I hope you're ready for some more practical lessons. [he looks up from where he's working on a huge sheet of rolled-out paper, a complex magic circle drawn on it with what looks like space for two people to sit and lend power.]

Because here, we get creative.

[ #10 was a bust, alas, but all other awkwardness and unsurness in her life right now aside, she has no doubt that she'll be able to do this. That, at least, is something good that came from the trauma of the breakout. She knows she can do things she doesn't feel are possible, if she works at it.

She grins curiously and peers at the image, trying to make out details. ]

Cool. What's it for?

[he squats by the edge of it, looking it over]

Surgery.

Since coming here I worked out a kind of healing magic that I don't think strictly existed back home. It's complicated and takes a lot of focus as well as a lot of power, and it's way beyond what you're capable of right now.

But we're in charge of medical right now, it looks like, the interns who put us back together when we died are gone.

If we're on our own, we need as much healing power as we can get our hands on, and this is a circle made to let you help me out with some of that.

I revise my earlier statement: fucking cool.

How's it work?

It, um...doesn't. Yet. I'm working on that part.

The basic idea is that in a circle, magic is almost like electricity. You can direct it with lines to do what you want, and the idea is that it's meant to direct both of our power to the person in the center.

The trouble is keeping the injured person from exploding. I want to work out that bug before we do any testing.

Hm. Well, yeah, that seems like an, um. Important bug to fix before you go into human testing.

[ pardon her while she has a horrible mental image of exploded someone-or-other and Tsunade chewing them both out for turning her patient into mulch. ]

Do you have any ideas how to fix it or are you just sorta pulling it out your ass?

Define "pulling it out of my ass." this place has a lot of need for magic that would be stupid back home, redundant magic. I had to figure out how to make a stove and freezer, for example. Healing is...a new thing. It went through stages, I worked on it with Tsunade.

[he chuckles] You should see the early diagrams. It started as essentially a magic circle drawn all over a person, it took freaking hours to draw and if you smudged anything you had to start all over.

[He shakes his head, turning very slightly red]

But it's improved a lot now. When you're getting more advanced I might try to teach it, it's a tricky technique and there's a lot of room for pretty awful failure, so it'll wait. But it is very useful here, being able to repair vital organs, that sort of thing.
