Weird question, but I'm canvassing opinions. There's a job being advertised that I really want, which basically involves organising events and general admin into the bargain. Now, their current website is dreadful - http://www.abcd.org.uk/. I can (and indeed, have) build a better draft one ( Read more... )

A tricky one. Either they know it is terrible, and will love you forever for re-doing it for them, or the site was hand built by the boss using Word and he will be upset if anyone points out its flaws.

I'd say send it. Even if they don't like/use your redesign, it shows enthusiasm for the job and company and willingness to learn.

I agree - send it, but embed it tactfully into your general discussion of your interest in streamlining and targetting information, and as one of your skills.

If it's anything like some of the places I've worked, they going to be horribly understaffed in every respect. If you do include it in your application, I doubt they'd have time to look at it. I'd mention website design in the application and then bring it up at your interview.

Go for it :) If, like has been posted, the boss did it on a shoestring/by himself/herself and is proud of it, I don't think you want to work for them anyway. I'd say you have a lot more to gain than lose, although you know that better than me XD

Best of luck, and be confident! XXX

You mention that you are have ideas about advertising and promoting the company and include the website in this. You do not make any disparaging comments about it. Then at interview, when they ask you about things you'd do in the job, you bring up your website ideas but still do not say it is awful, just how you would get more information on it or whatever. Srsly.
