I'm the mean mommy. I'll sit there all day and encourage, but if I know he can do it, he needs to do it. And he knows it. :)
Part of this is a memory I have of one of my cousins (I have a lot of cousins, and we tended to run in packs when we were small) crying at lunch at a mutual aunt's house because he didn't know how to make a sandwich. (He was at least 5, maybe 7, at the time.) His mom waited on her menfolk hand and foot. I felt really sorry for him.
"Don't you know friends help their friends with their projects?"
That is priceless. Quite a smart little fellow.
Reminds me of the time when my nephew and I were sharing a can of pop. I let him go first and then it was my turn. His idea of sharing was him getting his half and my half. When I reminded him that it was my turn to have some pop, he asked me "what about friendship?" I almost died from laughing.
Yes, he often likes to "share" the last bit of something off your plate, since he's eaten all of his (breakfast sausage especially, for some reason). I'm glad he's learning good habits at daycare, now we just need to work on context. :)
I'm afraid he's going to grow up with a somewhat snarky approach to life--have to counteract all the treacly sweetness & light he gets at daycare & the TV we let him watch!:)
I was looking forward to seeing you as well and was sorry to miss the event, but this week is 3.5 days of intense social time at work (mostly with the obnoxious salesguy) so I thought I'd better reserve my strength a little bit. Next time!

... the project of making you self-sufficient...
I can help with that one, too.
