Hawaiian Loco Moco Redux

Too lazy to make a real cooking post but I thought I'd share today's lunch, a Hawaiian loco moco.

This version features a bowl of left over basmati rice (long grain, jasmine or sushi rice works too, as does couscous, quinoa or cauliflower rice), topped with a hamburger patty and canned Swiss Chalet beef gravy.

Is it the carbs?

How do you feel about raw fish a la poke?

No, it's the cobbled-together disparate ingredients. Rice, hamburger, gravy, and fried eggs? Hard pass from me, even tho your dish looks beautiful and authentic.

I adore sushi, so of course poke is fine. The only other Hawaiian dishes that I enjoy are kalua pig and lau lau. Having lived there 3 years and been invited to social events with home cooking, I have had my fair share of sampling what is on offer in a very authentic manner. I'm very open to new tastes and flavours, so I try everything with an open mind.

Pity we can't get the lau lau leaves here, altho I've done a fair rendition using swiss chard leaves.

I haven't had much exposure to Hawaiian dishes but I would like to try making malasadas one day.

The Kahlua pig and lau lau sound like party/large gathering foods where the work involved is worth it since it makes large portions. Like when making tamales.

The opposite when cooking for one like the loco moco ... cause I can use odds and ends for a fast and filling dish.
