Cold, Gray and Bored ... Purple

We got over three inches of snow overnight and, although the sun didn't make an appearance today, it was relatively mild. So, since I was home and didn't want to wait (until after 4 or 5 pm) to have my snow shoveled, I went out there with my little shovel and did it myself. The snow was wet and heavy, but I got it done and it only took an hour. And ( Read more... )

These are beautiful! I love the two-tone ametrine. And the ring is gorgeous, colour, stone, setting, and all!

Choosing one favourite gemstone is a tough question. I'm rather fond of rubies and emeralds, not that I'm dripping with either... I also love peridot, moonstone, labradorite, and malachite. And tho they are not gemstones, I adore pearls.

One of my favourite pieces of jewellery is called Pele's Song and was made for me by a friend. It has lace agate (cut and polished by another friend) citrine, carnelian, garnet, fire opals, and topaz. I've been meaning to share a photo of it on my LJ since I had posted wip pics while she was creating it.

RE: Ametrine ... there's also something watermelon tourmaline that I STILL regret not picking up for peanuts years ago when there was a travelling show of semi-precious stones that came to town. I'm not a fan of diamonds ... I like big showy gems ( ... )

I'm a big fan of watermelon tourmaline. It can be tough to find! I got a wonderful specimen from a friend, but the colours aren't as vibrant as the expensive gems.

As I say, too many to mention! I love carnelian, and lapis lazuli, and... The list goes ever onward, lol! Looking forward to hitting the Gemboree in August.

I will share it to be sure. :-)

Mine is a sapphire ring that TBG bought me in Thailand, which lives in a safe deposit box. For wearable jewelry, it would be my gold gecko holding a pearl in its mouth. I love that little guy.

I used to keep my jewellry in a safety deposit box too but then I never wore it so I brought it home. Where I don't wear it. :)

The gecko sounds cute. Like my silver marcasite tree frog with an amethyst back that I posted a while ago. It's tagged 'jewellry'.

I will have to go check it out. I wear very little jewelry and because of its value, it's safer at the bank.

I love moonstone, lapis & quartz along with raw diamonds (do diamonds count as "gems"- always wondered about that?) and amber (guess thats not a gem either)

A gemstone is a precious or semiprecious stone, especially one cut, polished, and used in a piece of jewelry.

So diamonds and amber are all gemstones.

I have a strand of amber I bought at the Chicago Field Museum years ago and a pair of amber earrings but no moonstones or lapis.

Oh, those are lovely! I'm quite fond of my birthstone, which is blue turquoise.
