The Classic Loco Moco

Nov 05, 2012 16:12

Over the years, my mom has accumulated a number of funny kitchen gadgets. One of my favourites and probably the first one I ever used on a regular basis, is this hamburger patty press. It shapes 4 oz of ground meat into a perfect patty.

ETA: You can find a similar hamburger patty press at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

My husband would tell you that I have every kitchen gadget known to man -- but I don't have a hamburger press, and I'm afraid I'd never heard about it before! Yours is so cute! Maria, I'd also never heard of the Hawaiin dish loco moco before -- but I love it. Thanks for introducing me to another new dish! (Barb @ Profiteroles & Ponytails)

You put your ball of meat between 2 sheets of parchment paper in the bottom half, hook the top half over the hinge at the back and press down. You can get them in Bed, Bath and Beyond.

I'm glad that I had the chance to share this simple dish with someone whose blog I enjoy reading, Barb.

I don't know what inspired my mom to buy it as she used to make her patties by hand, though hamburgers were not something that we had very often while growing up, but it was fun finding it in the kitchen drawers along with some other gadgets.

Making the loco moco was a new experience. The coleslaw reminded me that I haven't made okonomiyaki in some time. I bet a spam okonomiyaki would be interesting.

I don't have a pattie presser but I think it's definitely a gadget I would find very handy. What a satisfying looking meal xx http://hotlyspiced.com

Actually, it was more about being fast, easy, tasty and cheap. :)

A real protein packed meal which I think college students would be able to manage. And with some coleslaw in it, they've got some healthy veggies. :) You could even use brown rice and grilled marinated tofu, fish or ground turkey or chicken instead of the hamburger patty.
