What To Do With A Four-Day Weekend

Jul 06, 2010 07:28

If you're me, a four day weekend, especially Independence Day weekend, is spent around the house. I have a dog who freaks out over all the firecrackers set off in our neighborhood, and so going anywhere is right out. Besides, I loathe the crowds. Truly.

I had heard stories about how much of a war zone the White Center-ish area becomes on the 4th of July. Didn't believe it until I drove down Megan's street yesterday and saw all of the debris that the residents were sweeping up. Makes me even more grateful for the single bottle rocket stem and glass jar that were on our parking lot Monday morning. The cats freaked out at the first fireworks, but then were mostly fine. If our side street had been a war zone, I wouldn't have slept...

Usually the war zone starts the day before, or several days before, so in a way we got off early this year. But wow, it went a lot longer into the night than previous times. I wish I knew how to start an ordinance change (no pun intended), to get fireworks banned from the area.
