If you're me, a four day weekend, especially Independence Day weekend, is spent around the house. I have a dog who freaks out over all the firecrackers set off in our neighborhood, and so going anywhere is right out. Besides, I loathe the crowds. Truly.
Saturday was spent taking the Dude there and back again, but
evilandi and I sneaked in a visit to Harbor City in the International District to try out their dim sum. Om nom nom! It was incredibly good. Incredibly crowded, too, on a Saturday at lunch time. It cleared out by 2, but wow. PACKED. It was so busy that they seated us with a family from Kentucky at one of the large rounds, which was fun. The family had been out here for two weeks visiting their oldest boy who is at Fort Lewis. We talked about food across the nation, what was actually in the dim sum they were eating, and what they saw on their visit. Really nice family, and it was a pleasure to share lunch with them.
Sunday I made "holiday food," including the banana pudding I'd been craving since I visited S. Carolina. Sooo easy and soooo good. Miz KT and I played Rock Band (the Dude opted out), and that evening I watched a lot of Castle on my computer while I stayed up forever with the freaking dog. Nothing like sitting on the floor for hours with 70 lbs of quivering, panting dog glued to your leg. The firecrackers didn't stop until after 4:30 a.m., so none of us got much sleep. I love 4th of July. It's one of my favorite holidays. I don't love my rude neighbors. 'Nuff said.
The weather was moderately crummy all four days, so instead of gardening, I sat behind my computer and worked on scenes for "Dust" with
simonepdx. And, I must say, WE ROCK IT ENTIRELY! We had three chapters of new content to get through, and several scenes within those chapters, and we wrote them all!! What this means is we have a few editing passes to work through, and, I suspect, some trimming down of previous chapters, then we'll be done done. Then comes writing the synopsis, getting our pitches down pat, and taking this baby on the road.
I will admit, this time last month, I didn't think we'd make our deadline, which was to be done with new content a month out from Willamette Writers Conference. And it's exactly a month from yesterday. Whew! Now for polishing ... which is the easy part.
Today is back to work, which is good. I'm grateful I have a job--one of my friends lost his on Friday--and it's something which pays the bills and I can do well. I need to pull my head out of "Dust" though and remember what was on the work plate, because I seriously have no clue.
I also have R&R Game Day stuff to work through ... like now. Sorry,
evilandi! I'll get that to you today! Srsly!
And so starts another day in the life. And it's a damn good life, too.
