Begin challenging your own assumptions. Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won't come in.
Did you know that the Harvard School of Public Health made a new food pyramid a couple years back? I didn't. Looks a hell of a lot better than the old one.
Reminds me of that theory that restricted calorie intake at a young age (whether voluntary or not) will increase the risk of obesity at a later age. While I've not read anything that says it affects a body at the DNA level. The idea
