I suspect something a little different must've happened to otherDonna's dad, since altDonna's dad was upgraded in the whole Cyberman debacle, but yeah, I do think it's interesting how the show never touches on it at all. I'm also kind of borrowing from the original plan to have Donna's dad be basically the figure that Wilf turned out to be.

Yeah, the books are kind of... notoriously... bad. I think their primary issue seems to be that nothing interesting can happen character-wise, because it can't complicate the continuity in the show. But even still, that's not really any excuse for the awkward dialogue and stuff that they usually have. Winner Takes All, with Nine and Rose, is the only one I've read so far that had any interesting/believable character stuff.

You should check out Beautiful Chaos, with Ten and Donna. It's got lots of good character stuff with Donna, Sylvia, and Wilf. Bernard Cribbins reads the audiobook rather wonderfully, too.

But generally speaking, fic is better. Fic like yours! I loved this glimpse into alt!Donna's head post-Gingerbread. :)

Ooo I might pick that one up if I see it, then. It still seems kind of sad that the default state of the books is "bad" and anything slightly better than bad is really impressive. I find fic more interesting because it can do more character things, which is really what I want to read about anyway.
