top 5 ways to fix doctor who series 6

turtle_goose asked for my top 5 ways to fix series 6. "CHANGE EVERYTHING" didn't seem like a good answer, so I tried to work within the constraints of the basic plot outline of this season. Obviously this is really a top 5 ways to tweak series 6 to my liking.

So basically.... any acknowledgement whatsoever of cause and effect would have been nice to see in a genre (time-travel sci-fi) which is based highly on examining ideas of cause and effect?

WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF IDEAS ARE THESE O_O

All the awards to you!

River's two speeches you mention in #5 drive me crazy too. I made a post on doctorwho and asked people how they explained that inconsistency, but people were all just like "oh well when she's younger she was judgemental and immature, and when she grows up she realizes the error of her ways and that the Doctor is a cool guy after all". Didn't manage to really persuade me TBH.

Everything in S6 just got so much build-up and the resolution was so unsatisfactory. It's like when he was writing it he thought "okay, so this would be the proper, great way to solve this, but... that's not good enough! chuck proper and great through the window and bring me a barrel of mindfuck STAT".

Especially because we don't know how young or old River in AGMGTW is anyway. She seems pretty old to me. I think she's the oldest River we know prior to the library episodes.

I was just about to say the same thing. We don't really how old that River is... and btw, she's pretty old by Let's Kill Hitler IMO. She was about 10 in TIA, then lived from the sixties to 2010. as Mels - that at least makes her 50 or 60.

LOL ikr River Song is very long-lived. It's why it's also hard for me to take people too seriously when they justify her actions in TWORS with "she's young!" Well, she's older than basically any companion other than Romana, but okay.

Ha HA! Take that, Silence! You brainwash humanity into horrible things like TECHNOLOGY and SPACE TRAVEL? Well I'LL brainwash them to SLAUGHTER YOU ALL! Who's the puppetmaster now??

ACCURATE.

But we've had two seasons of the constant refrain that "time can be rewritten". We've seen a precedent for this, both in A Christmas Carol and The Girl Who Waited. The Doctor does what he thinks is right even when the decisions aren't always his to make. Rewriting River could be very dark (again! Point 5!) and very emotional and would be payoff for those other times we've heard that "time can be rewritten".

Preach!

The storyline would have been VASTLY more interesting to me if the crux of the season had been a conflict between the Ponds and the Doctor over the right thing to do. Amy and Rory could've argued their point, because they want their child back and while they like River, their infant child should be more important to them -- and why would they want their daughter to have a terrible, traumatic upbringing? Why are you not the showrunner ( ... )

LOLOLOL IDK. On one hand I left it public because I decided to be open about my totally correct opinions. On the other hand, Tumblr liked s6 a lot.

Number 1 SO MUCH. I still don't really get what happened there - at the end of A Good Man Goes to War he leaves promising Amy and Rory he's gonna get them back their baby so he clearly doesn't think it will mean erasing River! And then suddenly never mind because now she grew up with them as a childhood friend slash brainwashed assassin and that's clearly JUST AS GOOD.

I really hate the season 6 arc. And all episodes written by Moffat. When can Toby Whithouse take over already? :((

IKR? And River tells Amy she's "going to be" alright. To be fair I guess Amy IS alright since she seems bizarrely okay with never seeing her baby again, but I assumed that meant there would be more of a happy ending than what the Ponds got.
