montreal again! and some other stuff

I. I am back from Montreal! I spent the weekend with goldy_dollar and we went to ~the planetarium~ because we're 5 year olds and then we saw a Just for Laughs thing with kazutakia. The comedian we saw was a woman named DeAnne Smith and she was actually quite hysterical, which was awesome since with smaller-named comedians it can be hit or miss. She's got a YouTube

I think rather than characters turning terrible the main thing to keep your eye on is characters turning dead. And really the only one I am really invested in not turning terrible is Tyrion. So far (I'm about 2/3 of the way through Book 3), that has not happened and I am trusting GRRM to not make his obvious self-insert evil at any point. I don't think anyone one who wasn't initially at least of questionable morality has become awful. But quite a lot have become no longer alive. And one who is kind of a non-entity turns out to be such a hilariously evil douchebag from a family of douchebags who keep out-douchebagging him so you wind up feeling sort of sorry for the guy.

You're going to lol when you get to the various sex scenes. They're... really bad. I always have to laugh when people get all down on fanfic porn because have you read most profic sex scenes?! They're terrible. Jon Snow has [spoiler alert!] the most ridiculous sex ever.

Meanwhile: Martha/Billy Shipton has landed.

Yes I've been warned for character death as well though I guess that warning hasn't really hit home yet because none of my favourites have died yet.

I haven't gotten to a sex scene yet and I am already like ORLYing all over the place at the Tyrion chapters being like OH I REMEMBER THAT TIME SHAE DRANK MY WINE AND ALSO MY SEED or whatever lol great.

ALSO everyone being aged up and pretty-fied in the show is making for some confusing mental images. I laugh every time they describe Tyrion as GROTESQUE and it keeps throwing me when people talk about how Robb is 15 or whatever.

JUST WAIT UNTIL YOU GET TO AFFC. For me at least the worst sex scenes in the series are in AFFC. Your mileage my vary, of course. But omg. LOLLLL.

And yes, characters turning dead is always a possibility with GRRM. There are only a couple of characters that I believe that GRRM would never kill off, but generally I don't think he's shy about killing characters.

so question, i'm going to montreal for the first time soon and do you have any things that are a must-see/do?

and your thoughts on doctor who are always mine. i'm mad karen got signed on for season 7 and i'm tired of moffat. and i've heard this all before, and therefore i'll stop.

and england! i'm so jealous! that's just so exciting and fun. but yes, walking shoes are absolutely necessary because you'll want to walk everywhere and things.

LOL HMMM I will think on it, I am a huge loser so I don't do anything cool or cultured in Montreal usually, I do things like go to the planetarium and the biodome.

I read that about Karen and I am like "fuuuuuu" as well. I hope she means she (and Rory?) are cameoing like Martha did in s4, because I am a-okay with that and I really think that would make the show better, continued ties to past companions like that (even if "past companions" now just means "the Ponds"). But I really really hope we get a different full-time companion or two in s7 because part of what made the show interesting to me was seeing the Doctor's different relationships with the companions.

Yeah that's what I figure. I need to get some new shoes bah, I hate shoe-shopping.

Oh wow really, re: Karen? Huh, I feel like that kind of takes away some suspense for the end of season 6 now...though I guess the rumors of them dying could never have been true anyway because a) this is DW and b) this is Moffat especially. But no memory wipe or anything either I guess...

It would be cool to see them cameo though, and react to the new companions...and I can see them retiring to live their home life but still wanting to come back now and then for a visit.

I have read all the books, and I'm now reading Dance with Dragons and honestly sometimes I really think... ugh why I am reading this, why I am so invested, why I am putting myself through so much suffering because nothing is going to end up how I want it! I mean people aren't going to come back from the grave (AND IF THEY DO IT IS IN A COMPLTELY LACKLUSTER WAY (I'M LOOKING AT YOU DROGO)). The Starks are not going to be reunited as a happy family and like all the Lannisters aren't going to suddenly burst into flames... well they might I guess... that would be a cool plot twist...but seriously though... sometimes I get really sad about it.

I think this is how I pre-emptively feel, like I have a few favourites from the show and I just want them to get happy endings and be done with it. On one hand it's been a while since I had that kind of connection to something fictional, that NO MY PRECIOUS BBS I JUST WANT EVERYTHING TO BE HAPPY FOR YOU connection, so I guess that's good? But on the other hand I'm sure EVERYTHING WILL TURN TO DUST and ALL WILL NOT BE WELL and idk how I feel about that, I think rn I'd rather just linger in the ~possibility~ of a happy ending.

I don't blame you. I mean, I don't personally have any triggers or specific emotional ties/reactions/whatever to that period of history, and I'm wary of how they'll do it, so I don't blame you at all. I am worried it will be too much LOL HITLER without the appropriate severity given.

YEAH there are some characters I like so much more than others that in the show I'm always hoping for their scenes and in the book I'm hoping for their chapters. IDK.
