Ha! I just watched Ep 2, myself. I couldn't find my favorite bit from the episode on youtube, so with the help of a camera, photobucket and some scotch tape, mischief managed.
I am pretty sure this is called INTERESTING COMMENTARY but the internet will call it "glorifying pedophilia" because the internet fails at reading between lines.
Hahaha yes I was thinking that the whole time during that scene. "How will fandom turn this into a way to imply (or just outright state) that RTD thinks child rape and murder is awesome?" Because fandom is classy like that.
THIS EPISODE WAS SO GREAT. I AM SO DELIGHTED BY THIS TURN OF EVENS. RUSTY YOU DO NOT DISAPPOINT.
Danes's apology was total bullshit and I am JUDGING THE HELL OUT OF PLANET EARTH RN but I can totally believe that would happen. OR IT WAS GLORIFYING PAEDOPHILIA, YOU NEVER KNOW. (I haven't actually seen any TW wank and part of me is wondering if it is worth re-joining a couple of TW comms just to see what's happening in fandom.;
It would totally happen. And that is typically what I find compelling about RTD's stuff -- even if the scenario itself is totally whack, the reactions of the people involved are always very believable reactions, whether or not they're good reactions. Look at the way the media responds to something like Casey Anthony and it's really not hard to imagine everyone responding similarly in this situation.
Man, that Casey Anthony thing really confused me because the first I read of it was after she was acquitted and the BBC article was very... sympathetic towards her. And then I go on the internet and everyone is like GUILTY and I was like BUT SHE SEEMS SO NICE.
But yeah, RUSTY KNOWS HOW TO MAKE THINGS WORK FOR ME. But he does it in both directions, too. You get the worst of humanity and the best of humanity and you can believe both would happen. Well, in DW. Hopefully TW will have some of that best of humanity thrown in too this time around. XD
North American media hated Casey Anthony. IDK, I didn't follow the case so I try to stay out of it. But it was a gigantic media circus and definitely launched her to infamy.
LOL yes poor Torchwood, it's like all the Best of Humanity is busy being on Doctor Who and SJA and Torchwood gets left to deal with all of humanity's worst.
