Marilyn was beautiful. A sex symbol. Not the first, not the last. But she was THE it girl. But underneath all the beauty and glamour, she was just a normal girl. With insecurities. The media has a lot to do with her popularity. Being in Playgirl probably helped a lot too. I think her association with prominent men made people more interested. Most people are interested in the President's affairs (any type of affairs, sexual or not). The fact that she was gorgeuos helped a lot. The tpe of person she was has a lot to do with the reason I idolize Marilyn. But in the end, all the pressures mounted up. Society expected to much from one insecure girl. She tried to hide what was hurting her inside, but she couldn't hide it from herself.
-Not only was Marilyn Monroe the first model for Playboy magazine, but when her "calendar" nudie picture was published at the height of her popularity, she admitted posing for it and did not give off the impression of being ashamed in the slightest. You have to admit that that was something very new indeed (not only taking the pictures and exuding a public sexiness, but being unabashed about it as well). -Also, Marilyn exuded a very real vunerability that seeped through photographs you see of her. -She married a baseball legend and a famous American playwright. -She had ties to powerful men, from the the White House to the mob. -She was a jogger and a weightlifter before women did those sorts of things. --And lets not forget that famous "wiggle walk" of hers.
