So we're settling in in our new place. Givat Shmuel. Not a place we terribly wanted to be, but pretty good under the circumstances - close to both our offices, strong community (once we break into it), close to all the parental units. The apartment's nice. It'll take some getting used to before it's comfortable, but hey, we'll be here ( Read more... )

I can't help but wonder how come all my friends - ALL of them - had/are having/will have girls (recent example: Vered and Hannit, who just had TWIN girls, sisters to their older daughter), while I'm the only one who got a boy in the raffle.
Ah, well. At least he'll have a large sample to pick from in due time... that is, if he happens to swing that way and not the other. :-P

As to buying: if you don't have friends and family who'll give you lots of left over stuff (I had that luck, didn't have to buy almost anything), from advice I received and my currently meager experience: buy the absolute mandatory minimum. Most stuff can be purchased later by need, and you really can't know the exact needs in advance. You'll be getting gifts and left over stuff, once people find out you have a baby. Also, much stuff can be obtained used in excellent quality and minimum price in sites such as agora and yad2/winwin, because baby stuff gets used for a short while and then is discarded.
Basic lists of necessities can be found on the internet (f'rinstance, here) and even those lists are extremely over-populated. Things you should be aware of: sales on diapers. Check ads, and when you see sales on diapers, go and buy. Those things are bloody expensive, and the various sales make a huge difference in expense ( ... )
