Website Hell

So I think I just about hit the end of my rope on the website issue. The main problem is that initially when I had this brainchild of having a website I was heavily into fandom and had lots of friends who wanted to help. I started with having a site that a friend hosted for me. But adult material was a no-no. She turned a blind eye for longer than ( Read more... )

yikes! I dk what to tell you, Im sorry tho that sux.

myself I use a free site, freewebs combined with another free domain site, co.nr, to combine into one site that has lots of pages. I can't store any pictures or files directly, so I have photobucket and mediafire, etc for that and basically put all the links and coding at my site so it works.

I personally am only okay with coding afterward, but I was horrible with the setup, so a friend made me a layout and setup the coding and now I'm fine with it to update and whatnot. Although I have no idea if those sites have rules about adult material...

good luck!

Hmm. Well. I'd be more than happy to host you (for free!) again, if you like. I know the issue is the adult material... well, that, and vids are like uber-bandwidth hogs. My solution? Have the website part of it at JP or your domain, if you've already bought one, and maybe you can use one of those storage places like Mediafire or Box (both which I love) to upload your vids and link to them from your site. Both of those storage locations are pretty user-friendly.

As for the actual site-building part... it is and isn't complicated. Hell, I still remember trying to learn how to build a site. I couldn't even figure out the code to put up a splash page and had to ask the person who designed my site to do it for me! So, really, don't feel bad. We all have to start somewhere. And honestly, I started at kid's site too! I still visited Lissa Explains It All up until a couple of years ago when I got more into the semantics of web design and some of the basics were finally ingrained ( ... )

*sends hugs* I can so sympathize. I can barely upload icons into LJ, the idea of a website just terrifies me. I mean I generally think of myself as being a reasonably competent person but not for computer issues. Got no helpful advice for you but you have my admiration for even tackling the project.
