She is pro-life, though. I don't know if her Down's kid has anything to do with that stance, but it is on her political profile.

She's also a beauty pageant winner. There's a qualification for ya.

Oh she's definitely pro-life. According to the news discussions I've been hearing she is strictly anti-abortion with NO exceptions for rape, incest, etc.

But the idea that's been passed around that her son is PROOF of this is absurd.

Palin is pro-life, but not for that reason. I don't really care about her kid with Down syndrome - that is such a highly personal decision that has nothing to do with anyone's political stance. I'm rabidly pro-choice, but I have no clue if I'd be able to go through with an abortion if push came to shove. Private decisions don't necessarily have anything to do with generalized ideas about society.

God, between the bitter Hillary-backers, the far-left people promising to stay home on election day because they're pissed about FISA or off-shore drilling or in general don't want to back a candidate that doesn't agree with them on every single thing, and Nader wanting on the ticket, I feel like we might as well hand the presidency to McCain on a silver platter. Why is the Republicans can always manage to unite, and divided the Democrats fall?

Actually, being pissed at Obama about FISA is not really a far-left issue. FISA is a civil-liberties issue, which makes it a libertarian issue.

And I know I mentioned it before, but FISA is an important issue. FISA was put in place in the 70s to stop domestic spying. Being secure in your person, house, papers and effects is part of the Bill of Rights. If the government can spy on its citizens, it threatens all of our other rights. We need the ability to keep our own secrets for the same reason the government needs to be able to keep secrets from its enemies. It provides a huge strategic advantage. And sometimes we need to work against our government, when our government is working against us.

Thanks for your post. I pretty much feel the same way. I've been seething all day because I've read several articles that are seeming to conflate 'being pro-life' and 'being willing to carry a Down's syndrome baby to term'. I think there are plenty of pro-choice women out there that also would decide to keep their baby even if they found out he/she was going to be born with down's syndrome. Being pro-choice isn't about aborting babies because they are retarded! Grrr, grrr, grrr.
