Comfort food question

So, my friend Denise would like to know what you put in your meatloaf. Or what you eat for comfort food in general. Meatoaf for me (the way my mom made it) is ridiculously simple: hamburger meat, an egg, crackers, and cheese on top when it's almost done. Denise puts crackers or cornflakes and some kind of italian seasoning in hers, and ( Read more... )

never had chicken fried steak or chicken and dumplings

guilty!

My meatloaf is simple. Tear up 4 pieces of bread and soak in milk. Drain. Mix with 1-1 1/2 pound meat, egg, chopped celery, ketchup, salt and pepper and some other spices. put it in the pan and top with more ketchup and cook for an hour or so.

Hmmm. I think my mom's meatloaf may have had cereal in it too.

Other comfort foods for me include: mashed potatoes and gravy, bacon cheeseburgers, stews and chili.

I am so with you on the mashed potatoes and gravy. And it's hard to go wrong with bacon cheeseburgers, really.

Mmm...meatloaf...

I think I'm stuck in college mode and my comfort food remains pepperoni pizza.

Oh and my ultimate comfort food is grilled cheese with toamto soup in winter/fall, and watermelon with salt in spring/summer.

Meatloaf - ground beef & ground pork, onions, oatmeal, dry mustard, breadcrumbs, egg

As for comfort food...

- mac & cheese (macaroni, white sauce, cheddar, and small amounts of whatever ends of cheese are in the fridge)
- tunafish salad (pasta, tunafish from a can, onions, mayonnaise)
- chicken (soaked in buttermilk or dipped in egg, dredged in seasoned breadcrumbs, then fried or sometimes baked, and sometimes with sauce to dip it in)

Or just get into the current pint of chocolate ice-cream.

That sounds like good meatloaf. And good mac & cheese, which is very much a comfort food, too.
