Earlier this week I delivered some (free) furniture to my friend. It was late (11:30) but it is difficult for me to get a truck and Kerry's dad volunteered at the last minute

If I received an email like that from a roommate of a friend of mine, I would forward it to my friend (even though s/he was cc'd) and tell them that I don't enjoy messages like these and ask them to take care of it or I wouldn't feel comfortable visiting again.
Of course, I would then bitch about it to all my friends and generally mock the roommate for the rest of all time.
I might also sign the person up for whatever type of porn would offend them the most, if I was in a bitter mood.
Like you make a habit of delivering furniture at night?
Sounds like someone has some control issues. It really depends on what you think your friend would like, whether or not to reply, and I wouldn't make them pay for the roomie's extremely tightly cinched asshole by not visiting. Hah, as a matter of fact, I would choose to go over almost as soon as I could and be EXTRA friendly to them in some really annoying way. At night. Wait till they're sleeping then bring in smores and parcheesi.
That isn't really you though. :)
Just chalk it up to a random asshole sighting and forget. You were doing something nice, fuck them.
well, I said it in person, and I'll say it here, just for the record:
Late at night on a 'school night', without any warning is less than ideal in terms of furnitiure delivery. On the other hand, I got the stuff, and that's good. It's not like late-night furniture delivery is a persistent problem. It's a one-off, and since I'm the one being done the favour, I don't feel I should be too picky about the manner in which the favour is done. Thanks be to you and Kerry and her dad and bro for hauling it here.
Hopefully you and my beloved can sort out your differences. My fingers are crossed for both of you.
For me, the bottom line in this tale is this: life is too short to carry a beef about something that wasn't lethal or didn't result in incarceration in a Turkish prison. To quote you: "is any of this going to matter in 100 years?"
If you haven't already, it seems overdue. You may have been doing a favour for a friend, but this wasn't well thought out as to impact on others. You may have decided to take a risk that it would be ok and it clearly wasn't. You took the risk (apparently ringing the bell until someone woke up?) and ye pays the consequences
( ... )
Thanks for your suggestion, Carol, it's always good to get different perspectives. FYI, we did not ring the door bell, we just dropped furniture off in the back patio (took about 10 minutes).
Ah...well, that put's a slightly different slant on it than is implied in the email. And one that's more in keeping with what I'd expect from what I know of you.
I can understand some frustration though in being woken up like that. It might be scary to think someone is on the back porch.
A simple email apology for waking someone up might be appropriate, thank 'em for the info as to the "rules" which you're happy to respect, hope you all can trust that that will be the case and it can all move on from there, (and then I tend to be wary of people who react that strongly, unless they also recognize they might be overreacting...though of course...there is always more context than a simple email summary sometimes picks up.
