Old-Fashioned Lullaby (SPN fic)

I am very pleased to present a fic I began less than a week ago and yet have put through multiple stages of betaing and in-depth revision. :)  It's an accomplishment, okay?

So, it's pretty similar thematically to Only Skin Deep, but without Wincest.  And just so you know, it's a totally indulgent fluff fic, without pretense.

I love what you've done with Jess here, how real you've made her, how well she knows Sam (and how much she doesn't know about him), and oh, I love your Sam, how caught up he is in his fear, and I love how Dean responds to him, and I love his reaction to realizing that John still cares about him (and I love the fact that John does ask about him). So, basically, I love everything about this. All of your characters read as so real, and so right, and the tone of this story is so effective -- frightened and tense, exhausted and aching and authentic.

Seriously, I wish I could convey how I started half-laughing with this hysterical edge, like I might burst into tears at any moment, halfway through reading your comment. Probably due to the fact you said "love" no less than six times, and your review was as beautiful as much of your writing (and actually, hey, coherent, maybe I should try for that sometime).

So yeah, thanks. You've mentioned my reviews have made you happy; well, you have absolutely returned the favor. ♥ And I honestly feel so much better about myself as a writer, especially a SPN fic writer, now. *runs back to her WIPs so she can finish and post something else you might hopefully like*

And in coming to reply to this comment, I got distracted and read the story again. I do love it, very much. I read very little fanfiction, because the version of Sam and Dean in my head is so specific, so precise, that it doesn't often make an appearance in other people's stories, but this, right here, is it exactly, and oh, so much love for that. I just, I want to see this filmed, but also I don't need to, because it's so vivid and genuine already. (And, dude, this story, and "Only Skin Deep," and the notes you've left -- definitely coherent. Oh, yes.)

I'm so excited for the stories you're working on, the stories you're going to tell. ♥

Wow, wowow. See, I thought this story was a pretty nice piece of hurt/comfort fluff, but I didn't think it had much substance beyond that...but your comments are so bolstering. Especially what you said about how picky you are, how you want to see this as a film...I really can't express how much this means to me.
