Happy 10 Year LJ-versary to MEEEEE

Apr 13, 2013 23:31

Today it's ten years since I signed up for LJ! Wheee!

It's been a truly crappy week, so instead, let's focus on the good things in life, shall we? Specifically, my favorite recent purchases:

Coffee table

I've been looking for a new coffee table since I bought a new couch last fall. I had the dilemma of needing a small coffee table - the couch is a bit awkwardly shaped, so the the coffee table couldn't be more than 90 cm in diameter at most and if the table wasn't round I don't even want to think about how small it had to be. But the couch is still fairly big, so I've been looking for a small table that won't look ridiculous next to the huge couch, and I finally found this table that I could use as a bookcase to "ground" it. I kind of love how it came out.

Boots

I'd been salivating over these Prepare Map Vogs since I first saw them in the fall, but the price was kind of ridiculous, so I figured it wasn't meant to be... Until January, when a Swedish site that carries Vogs had a 70% off sale on all boots! So these came in at about $150, which sat a lot better with my budget than the original $400+. I haven't had a chance to wear them until recently, now that the snow and ice have disappeared, and I love them so much! They're even easier to walk in than the Prepare Guides I own because the ankle is supported. I wear them every day right now (because soon enough, I'll have to put them away in favor or summer shoes).

Camera

I've been interested in experimenting with lomography for a while, and these cameras are pretty darn adorable. When I saw that this style had been discontinued but was still available in the online store, I snapped it up immediately. Now I just have to find a place that still develops negatives (I already have a negative scanner, so I don't think I'll be getting prints).

I've tried a few new pilots:

Hannibal
Such a well done pilot, and yet it left me completely cold. I am in no mood to watch a glorification of a misogynistic, sadistic serial killer. I mean, at least Dexter killed bad people. And even that got old after a while.

A friend watched episode 2 and said that there was a truly unique scene, one she'd never before seen in a show like this, so of course now I'm curious. But I think I'll just hate myself if I go back, so I'll probably refrain. Maybe I'll stumble upon a gif set...?

Orphan Black
I've only watched the first episode so far, but I'm intrigued and will keep watching for a bit to see how it develops.

I've dropped a few shows:

Hart of Dixie
I never went back after the Wade cheating thing. Honestly, the only thing that was keeping me there was Wade/Zoe and Lavon & Zoe, and I'm not willing to stick around for The George and Zoe Show just for a glimpse of some friendly good times. Nu-uh, no way, sorry.

The Following
I technically haven't dropped it since I did watch the latest episode, but I'm pretty sure it'll be my last. I'm just not interested. Once again, it's probably the whole glorification of serial killers. When I watch a show about serial killers, I WANT THEM TO GET CAUGHT. IN TWO EPISODES MAX. Also, the show can barely keep my attention these since around episode 7-8. Maybe it's my whole recent revulsion of the genre, but hasn't it gotten really dull since then?

I keep meaning to cut Happy Endings because I've never really taken to it, but all of a sudden I've watched an entire season, just from inertia. Maybe next year? If it even gets renewed, that is.

Looking forward to quite a few more:

Next week we have Veep and Defiance starting. And Awkward, but I'm not sure if I'll watch this season. I've also got a few episodes of Top of the Lake, but I haven't gotten around to them yet. And, of course, the Arrested Development excitement is ever-present.

I'm also thinking of trying out House of Cards and catching up on Nikita. Anyone got any other recs? What was Banshee like?
