I love Glee too, though I'm not fannish about it in the least and I don't really care about some (maybe most?) of the ongoing storylines. But still, there's singing and dancing so I can't be too unhappy about it.
HIMYM, on the other hand, I'm completely disappointed in this season. They broke Barney and Robin up in the most ridiculous way possible (I mean, a fat suit, really now) and they never really wrote them in character before that except for maybe the premiere and a few scenes here and there. I really can't be excited about this show anymore since I know that it's possible for them to suck so very much.
It's funny, now that you mention it, I can only think of three ongoing storylines (leaving out the glee-ness of the whole show, including the sectionals, regionals, etc): Quinn's pregnancy, Terry's non-pregnancy and Emma's upcoming nuptials. And I hate them all, they suck to high heaven. And yet, one of my favorite shows this season. Does. Not. Compute.
I really thought (hoped) that season 4 was going to be an anomaly, and that they'd give up on the more sitcommy stuff and focus on the continuity and character interaction that made HIMYM so special. But I guess they're still only interested in the casual viewers, because the longtime fans have gotten screwed over big time this season, in my opinion.
This season of Dexter is really top notch. I can't remember enjoying a season this much since Season 1! The funny thing was I had figured out earlier that Christine was the one that shot Deb, but I didn't make the connection between Christine and Trinity. I assumed Christine was obsessed with Deb (Dating her partner, constantly wanting to speak with her, etc) but I was clearly way off on my reasoning for why Christine shot Deb. The other thing I particularly loved about the last episode, apart from the amazing OMG! cliffhanger was the scene when Dexter loses his cool with Trinity. It was exhilarating to see his wild, animalistic side come out, especially because he's normally so careful to not betray any behaviour that would seem suspect.
My heart really went out to Vince when he saw Rita kissing another man. It puts Vince in a really awkward position as now he has to debate whether or not to tell Dexter about it (And placing himself in the 'don't shoot the messenger' position) Oh and speaking of Rita - Like I didn't hate her enough
( ... )
Quite the detective skills you've got there. It didn't even occur to me that Christine had done it. And I agree, Dexter losing his shit was epic!
I have a hard time feeling sorry for Masuka, he's such a slime ball. And I'm pretty much ignoring Rita at this point, I find her so irrelevant to the show that I can't even bother with it anymore.
Glee is an enigma. How can something so bad be so good?! It's gotta be the singing.
Annie/Jeff! Soooo much better than Britta/Jeff. Of course, on this show I'm not so much a 'shipper as a sideline cheerleader
That's how I feel, too! I love that 'ship above all else, but if I were to start watching the show with Jeff/Annie blinders on, I wouldn't get much satisfaction AT ALL. I'm glad it's got such a strong ensemble and that it makes ALL 'ship possibilities enjoyable. (Except now I can't seem to get back into the Jeff/Britta state of mind. Whoops! I still think Annie's crush on Troy is cute, though.)
My love for Glee is a strange beast.
I haven't been able to watch the last few episodes, so my once strongly burning love for Glee has fizzled some, but I agree with you re: stupid storylines vs. enjoyment factor. But then I remember that this show is coming to us from the brain of the guy who gave us Popular, so outrageous plots are to be expected. But if they suddenly and without explanation wrote out the pregnancies, I WOULD REJOICE.
I HATED that they broke Robin and Barney up.Even though I barely 'ship Barney/

I love pretty much all the characters on Community. But Britta/Jeff has just been dullsville from day one. I wish they'd just do it already and move on.
I just bought Popular on DVD so I could go back and relive the glory that is Mary Cherry. Now THAT'S a character we should see on Glee! Can you imagine Mary Cherry showing up as the new substitute teacher? ...um, neither can I. I mean, Mary Cherry a TEACHER? Yeah, not going to happen. But in some other awesome capacity.
I would have been fine with them not having gotten together over the summer like it was before the reveal of their secret relationship. But having them be together and doing such a piss poor job of portraying their brief stint together came as a complete cold shower. I can see not wanting to give up the cash cow that is Barney, but if they're only going to have them be together for a few episodes, couldn't they at least have written a convincing and good story for them? Apparently not.
Oh, I'm so happy you caught up with Being Erica! And liked it too. :) I'm loving this season so much it's ridiculous. And here's hoping Erica will realize that Ethan is boooooooring and dump him soon.
re: HIMYM: I've seen the episodes after the break-up and while I did think they were pretty funny, there's something SERIOUSLY OFF with the show. Mainly, the fact that since Barney and Robin broke-up, they barely interact directly with each other anymore. I'm seriously having Dawson's Creek season five flashbacks, and hey, that's when I quit that show.
I could've written EXACTLY what you said about Glee. I see the problems, some storylines make me wanna tear my hair off and yet I still love it to itty bitty pieces. YES.
What's not to like? It's been AWESOME! (I would have no problem with Erica dumping Ethan. I think I've made myself clear on that point. ;-)
Ugh, you're not exactly making me want to catch up with HIMYM. (Or Dawson's Creek, where I still haven't watched most of season 5 or 6, except for the finale and the episode where P/J get locked in the store.)
I can imagine that eventually, the storyline issues that Glee has will become too big a problem to ignore. But I'm not even close to that point right now and I'm just loving it to death.
Maybe it's because I don't pay very close attention to Lisbon (or anyone else, really. The Mentalist is kind of 'background tv' for me, though I enjoy it as such), but I never noticed Robin Tunney's disproportionately long torso. I'll be on the lookout for it next episode, I guess.
The Good Wife still has me, too, and I truly relate with how you feel about Glee.
Well, it doesn't help that they emphasize her torso by those low-waisted pants. I mean, fashion is one thing, using current fashion with no regard for the person wearing the clothes is probably the stupidest thing anyone can do. And for a professional to do it? Should be grounds for dismissal.
I love The Good Wife, I'm not even sure why. And Glee just WORKS.
