tv is my happy place. and my sad place.

This VM fic makes me so happy. It feels like the author is making sense out of all the things I never thought made sense in season 3. Dealt with in this chapter: Duncan, Piz, the FBI. But if you're allergic to WIPs, I'd recommend staying far away from this one. I think it's been over a year since the last update and we're only on chapter four. So, ( Read more... )

Yeah, as the show has progressed, Deb's gotten more interesting and Rita has gotten less so. You're right, Rita was so broken in the first season, but now she's just a complainy nag, even though she does have the right to be, in some sense, since Dexter is, well, lying a lot to her. But not for cheating or drugs! I don't know how to fix her, though, besides letting her find out about Dexter. That would at least be interesting. I used to like her well enough, but she's hard to like these days.

I never really liked Rita, she's just not my kind of character. But I used to think that she had an interesting story and that her relationship with Dexter added so much to his general fucked-upedness. These days she and they as a couple are just so vanilla, which takes a lot of the bite out of the show as a whole, and has pretty much erased anything interesting about the character of Rita, who now is just a soccer mom. I can't help but think that they got complaints about their treatment of women or something (in season 1, Rita was weak, Garcia was a bitch and Deb was the victim) so they remade the female characters accordingly, leading to the total breakdown of Rita.

You've definitely articulated my thoughts on Dexter. (Although I will happily admit I was a big Deb/Lundy shipper and did enjoy that particular storyline) Deb has always been one of my favourite characters, but she took my breath away (Literally) in the latest episode. I watched it with my dad and we were both blow away by how brilliant her performance was. I actually felt like I was hyperventilating.

As for Rita, I couldn't agree more. There have been a lot of complaints in the fandom about her character in the last couple of seasons. I personally think it was all downhill after Dexter cheated on Rita with Lila. Ever since then Rita has adopted this wounded, holier-than-thou attitude where she feels Dexter owes her something. She's nagging, controlling, and overall just a boring character. I found her character interesting in Season 1 because she was so broken and as you mentioned, her character added nicely to Dexter's already fucked up life but now is a whole 'nother story. Aside from the obvious complaints about her, she has ( ... )

I think my biggest issue with Deb/Lundy was that it was so far from what I wanted to see happen with Deb after she'd just been betrayed by the man she loved - and almost killed by a serial killer to boot! I wanted more impact than what we got, for her to maybe become introverted, fucked up (well, more fucked up), and the Lundy thing sort of ruined that whole storyline by making her happy. It took away the thing I thought was interesting about her and replaced it with...nothing ( ... )

Finn is not a good singer. I think it's something about his conflict as a character that keeps him in the lead even though hello, Puck is 34590345x better, totally making Puck/Rachel seem so much more righteous in comparison. Also, they're a couple of good-looking Jews and it's natural, the end.

Will is getting increasingly annoying but that's also unfortunate 'cos he's on screen 99 percent of the time anyway. Ergh, at least he can sing.

And honestly, I think Emma married Ken just so she'd have a legitimate thing to have to get over Will. Which is just stupid, 'cos just watching them (and Ken knows it, too, weirdly enough, way to hang a lamp on their own characters this early in the game) means that the wedding's just another foil. But, now that they've already addressed it, I really want to know where they're going to take this. Plus, I strangely like Ken? A hell of a lot more than I do Will, so there's that.

Finn needs less screentime, and so does Will (even though I'm all with the zen), and Puck needs more.

The wedding has to be a foil, because I don't think any show would allow a character to do that either to themselves or to another person. I just can't even imagine what they're trying to accomplish when they had Emma accept the proposal. For the audience to hate her? Because that's pretty much the only thing I can think that it does accomplish in the long run. Even on a show as overwrought as this one, characters have to have some basis in reality. And they're just moving them into the realm of ludicrousness one by one.

I think they're starting to understand their ludicrousness, albeit painstakingly slowly, and even though the wedding was stupid from the start, at least it's in the middle of the season rather than the end. I would hate if this stretched out for more than that. Will's obstacles as a whole seem really dumb, so a wedding on top of that I guess was more on his behalf and they didn't really think about Emma's standpoint much at all.

Just wanted to say yes to every single thing you've said about Glee. Finn really grates on me with his spinelessness and dimness, and I don't have much use for Will outside of his obvious talent at performing. Given my distaste for the two male leads, it's lucky that I love the female lead of the show. Rachel is my favorite character and Rachel/Puck is indeed intriguing. I wish they hadn't squashed that storyline so soon, though I guess Glee does tend to tie things up quickly. I really hope they revisit the pairing in the not-too-distant future. I'll just rely on the fandom to churn out some quality fic in the meantime.

I really want to like Will, because I love it when he performs. But the only thing about the character that I really do like is his performances. *sigh*

I think that without Rachel I wouldn't be half as interested in this show. I think they found the PERFECT female lead. Now they just have to find a better male lead and all will be good. =)

I am writing this comment, just so you know, with a gently simmering jealousy for your TOUCHSCREEN LAPTOP! Just ignore it. But tell me. What's the future like? Besides the fancy laptop. Do we have hovercrafts yet ( ... )

I don't know how Puck/Rachel managed to be so fantastic, but damn if I'm going to think too hard about that one. It's weird how one episode changed my views of "Puck? Who cares!" to "GIVE PUCK EVERY MALE LEAD VOCAL EVER, THANKS.

This. Exactly. It's like you're reading my mind. I'm somewhat scared at how quickly I started shipping Puck/Rachel, when I haven't really been tempted to ship ANYONE on this show post-Pilot (I had a moment of Will/Emma weakness).

Maybe it'll eventually be like a Spike/Buffy thing, where Puck isn't ever supposed to intentionally be a fan favorite but because of the undeniable chemistry he becomes the lead love interest? Maybe?

That would be awesome. Just keep Marti Noxon as far away from this show as possible.

Yes! Every fanfic that was popping up before that episode was Puck/Rachel and I didn't get it at all. I mean, sure, the obligatory psychotic jackass is always fun to pair with the cute female lead, but PUCK AND RACHEL? My mind didn't even want to go there! And then, wham. The (pre-episode) "Sweet Caroline" video happened and it's been crazy capslock declarations of OTP! for me ever since.

Just keep Marti Noxon as far away from this show as possible.

Pshaw, hovercrafts. Jet-packs, baby!

I have high hopes for Puck edging out Finn, I think he can do it! I mean, he's so obviously the better singer, so it should only come naturally that he would start playing a bigger part in the show. Right?

My issues with Finn aside, I do like the actor. He's just been given a horrible character to play. Same with Will. I'm not sure why the character building on this show is so bad, but they really need to step it up, and soon.
