For backing up I use FEBE:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2109
I don't backup online but apparently you can upload to Box.net account.

Hope it works for you.

Thank you! I knew there was something or other. Thankfully, I'd just started breaking in my work computer, so I'll just use this on my home computer, which I've got set up just the way I like it, and then move it to the new computer.

Stickies are exactly what I've been looking for! I had a post-it note thing before, but it wasn't very good so I got rid of it. But these are great.

And I'm afraid the firefox addon might be very necessary soon, judging by the weird noises coming from my computer. :-(

Isn't it awesome? I think my favorite part is that it allows you to save styles so you can have, for instance, to do lists with one in one style, birthdays in another style, and just change it with right-click.

After replacing both my personal computers in the past year or so, I've developed a trick or two for how not to lose everything when a computer is taken out of circulation, and these days, I hardly even feel a twinge when something has got to go. The only thing that was missing was the extension back-up (Foxmarks even backs up passwords these days if you want it to), but even there, I had my extension posts to work from. The only bummer is that I'm going to have recreate things like all my clippings. Of course, I'll probably just paste them all into an email and make all the clippings in one go.

You know, it's a total hack but what I did last Friday when I formatted the computer was I saved my entire Firefox profile folder [under Documents & Settings >> USERNAME >> Application Data >> Mozilla >> Firefox >> Profiles >> directory with crazy name]. Then I re-installed FF and copied the entire folder back. Everything went back to working perfectly. Even saved passwords and History. And I did the same with Thunderbird and it worked too. :)

Oooh, that's an interesting idea. I guess I should just make sure I have the exact same version running on both before trying it.

I'm just glad that my multiple computers have already forced me to keep my all my email online, because losing all my contacts/emails would probably kill me.

I didn't even have the same versions - new computer was latest FF3, old was an earlier version - and it worked :D

That said, I used this Password Exporter extension, too, just in case: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2848

Every time I install more than a few extensions/scripts I end up backing-up my profile folder [meaning I copy it to the external HD *g*] just so I'm always covered.

I use Thunderbird because I have to manage annoying work email accounts that need HTML formatting for sending crap. Also, I have 2 Gmail accounts and I like accessing them at the same time. But I use IMAP for Gmail so every change in Thunderbird is reflected on the server and vice-versa. :)

Thanks! That's going to save me tons of time when I have to set up my new computer, I'm sure.

I agree with you completely on both TAR and West Wing. I couldn't stand Jed in the last season, and I thought CJ was a shitty chief of staff and a stupid choice and ugh, I hated all of it. Oh well.

You know, while I agree that it was a stupid choice, I can't say it was a shitty one, because...well, did C.J. DO anything? All we see is her reading huge briefing booklets and talking to the president and nothing - good or bad - happens at all. It's like they were so afraid to let her make mistakes that they had to keep her completely inactive because they also couldn't make her a Mary Sue and have everything go her way.

They took away everything that made her a good character because they were petrified of making her look weak because she was a woman (and I'd argue that the same goes for Donna, but not to the same extreme).
