You know, it's a total hack but what I did last Friday when I formatted the computer was I saved my entire Firefox profile folder [under Documents & Settings >> USERNAME >> Application Data >> Mozilla >> Firefox >> Profiles >> directory with crazy name]. Then I re-installed FF and copied the entire folder back. Everything went back to working perfectly. Even saved passwords and History. And I did the same with Thunderbird and it worked too. :)
Oooh, that's an interesting idea. I guess I should just make sure I have the exact same version running on both before trying it.
I'm just glad that my multiple computers have already forced me to keep my all my email online, because losing all my contacts/emails would probably kill me.
Every time I install more than a few extensions/scripts I end up backing-up my profile folder [meaning I copy it to the external HD *g*] just so I'm always covered.
I use Thunderbird because I have to manage annoying work email accounts that need HTML formatting for sending crap. Also, I have 2 Gmail accounts and I like accessing them at the same time. But I use IMAP for Gmail so every change in Thunderbird is reflected on the server and vice-versa. :)
OH HEE! I followed the link svveetivy posted down-thread and lookit [scroll down]! We're doing exactly what we're supposed to do. Oh Firefox, you incredibly intuitive user-friendly fiend. :)

That said, I used this Password Exporter extension, too, just in case: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2848
